CM pulls into Dry Dock in Dutch Harbor
The Cornelia Marie pulled into drydock to address some minor repairs needed concerning the rudder/ props. We had some break downs during King Crab season and want to take care of those issues no. We don’t want to take any changes once were out on the fishing grounds. Its been a cold winter in Alaska and the sea ice/ice pack is going to be a concern. More on that later.

To dry dock a boat, you generally fill the dock where the boat will be resting with water (imagine a rectangular pool next to the ocean with an open side), then float the ship in and pump out all the water. The boat rests on huge blocks that keeps all its props and such up off the ground. Once repairs and the like are done, the dock is flooded again, and the ship can head back out to sea.
You might not ever see this, Tom L, but hey, someone else might be curious. :)

When the DC guys are on After The Catch and they talk about what they bring as ’securety blankets’ or whatever with them to remind them of home it’s funny. Josh said pictures of home. In My Chemical Romance, Gerard said books and jackets. “I just bring a lot of jackets. I’m like a… jacket sl*t, it’s weird”. Imagine MCR crab fishing and the CM crew in a band. Gerard would be captain, Mikey deckboss, Frankie would be a deckhand and Ray would run the hydro’s, then Bob would be bait boy. And Phil would be vocalist, Murrey lead guitarist, ummm Dave rythm guitar, Josh bass, and Jake drums. And they’d all wear eyeliner but the MCR boys wouldn’t wear eyeliner anymore. They wouldn’t have time to put it on, or dye their hair.

I can’t hardly wait to see the Cornelia Marie again! She’s looking very good again this year in her Bering Sea Blues. What a marvelous F/V! Some of the greatest shots that Discovery has ever shot of the Bering Sea has been aboard this grand lady. “A man’s got to do what a man’s got to do. A woman must do what he can’t.” Give the boys he!! again this year and show them how it’s done! The Cornelia Marie rules!

I´ve made a bet with my friends, so I´m not allowed to have my one and only “thank-god-it´s-friday-Carlsberg-beer” for 4 months. A ritual I´ve had since school. Does that count as being in a drydock? If so… buy CM some candy and some flowers. Take good care of her… and PLEASE! don´t joke about her weight! ;-)
I´ll let you guys know when I´ve quit smoking, will go grazy so you could just throw me out on the packice and I´ll melt it for you. ;-)
Take care and be safe!

I know its late in the season, but glad to see Phil back on the boat. Sounds like the fleet had a bad winter in Alaska. I can’t imagine being on board that ship in that kind of weather. You guys really earn your living. In honor of you guys starting the Opie season, my wife and I went to Red Lobster and pigged out on snow crab! It was great, I imagined that it was caught by one of the deadliest catch boats! Good Luck and God speed!

I am a big fan of CM and the Deadliest Catch show. Hope to see all of you again on the show. When the show went off Phil wasn’t sure if he would be able to come back. Has his health turned around for the good and will he be well enough to go out with the guys this year? Good luck and God Speed!

I have never looked so forward to a show as I do on Tuesdays at 900pm. I have a great amount of respect for what you guys do. Is it possible to take tours of the boat? Is it in Seattle?

We haven’t given any tours of the boat. It’s actually working most of the time. When it’s not crab fishing, it will tender for herring and salmon. And when it’s not fishing it’s getting repaired. The Cornelia Marie’s home port is and has always been Kodiak, Alaska.
