Cornelia Marie is in Dutch Harbor
Thanks to a couple bloggers in Dutch Harbor, “Dutch Harbor Dirt” and “Life on The Rock“; we have a photo or two of the Cornelia Marie at the Delta Western Fuel Dock. Indeed, Captain Phil, Josh, Jake, Freddie, Steve, two Discovery Channel crew members and a Fish and Game Observer are all on board getting ready to go King Crab Fishing in the Bering Sea. If that sounds like a lot of people – it is! That’s a lot of for the Cornelia Marie to handle – going to get a bit crowded. The Alaska King Crab Fishing season starts at exactly 12 noon October 15th. Every year we have our challenges and this year is no exception. More to come later – check us out on twitter for updates throughout the season. http://www.twitter.com/deadliestcatch

“The sinking of the F/V Seahawk”, told by Corey Eisenbarth.
As promised in a recent blog on www.corneliamarie.com, we are bringing you video clips from an exclusive interview with former Cornelia Marie deckhand, Corey Eisenbarth.
You may have heard the gut-wrenching story about the sinking of the Seahawk in 1983 during Corey’s appearance on “After The Catch.” During the interview with us, Corey gave a detailed account of his terrifying ordeal at the age of 18.
“We overloaded the boat with too many crab pots. That was the first mistake we made… The steering ram must have broke inside the rudder room… I went out on deck…and by this time the whole boat was already on its side.” Hear the story from Corey himself in this videotaped interview recorded in June at his home in Astoria, Oregon.
In the next installment, we’ll hear from both Freddy and Corey of the Cornelia Marie. They knew each other for years before working side by side on deck. You will hear more about why they love fishing on the Bering Sea, scary stories from the deck of the Cornelia Marie and more in the next video clip and blog…coming soon.

F/V Lady Mary sinks off New Jersey
Devastating news in the world of fishing. According to the New York Times, two men are dead and four missing after the Lady Mary sank 65 miles southeast of Cape May, N.J. Tuesday morning. The Coast Guard said of the three crewmen rescued from the chilly Atlantic waters, only one survived. The search continues for the remaining four members of the scallop boat.
Our thoughts and prayers from the F/V Cornelia Marie go out to the friends and families of the Lady Mary.

Cornelia Marie still fishing

While most of the “Deadliest Catch” boats have finished Opilio fishing, the Cornelia Marie is still at it. Everything has taken longer this season due to mechanical problems.
Cornelia herself just talked to the boat. She tells us the crew is fishing in the Bering Sea where, as you can imagine, it is extremely cold. Captain Phil is not at the helm this trip. Instead, Murray, the relief skipper, is in charge.
The F/V Cornelia Marie and her crew should be done with Opilio fishing around the end of March. The boat will then be tied up in Dutch Harbor. Herring tendering at Togiak, Alaska is scheduled to begin sometime around April 20th.

CM pulls into Dry Dock in Dutch Harbor
The Cornelia Marie pulled into drydock to address some minor repairs needed concerning the rudder/ props. We had some break downs during King Crab season and want to take care of those issues no. We don’t want to take any changes once were out on the fishing grounds. Its been a cold winter in Alaska and the sea ice/ice pack is going to be a concern. More on that later.
