Totally Iced – New Deadliest Catch episode

Check out the preview of the next episode of Deadliest Catch! The F/V Cornelia Marie is covered in thick ice. Josh and Jake have to go out on the stack with hammers and mallets to just get the pots unchained. Traveling with a full deck of pots while making ice is one of the most dangerous aspects of Crab fishing. The boat is vulnerable because of all of the extra weight of the ice… moving the center of gravity up and making the boat top heavy. When the conditions are just right, sea spray can accumulate on nearly everything above deck. You would think with today’s technology there would be a better way to remove the ice… but no, the guys still have to go out with baseball bats and mallets and just start swinging.
Of course, their is also the danger of falling ice from the rigging. I think there was earlier episode on last season where the cameras caught some falling ice hitting one of the deckhands. Is it just me or does the editing and music this season always make it seem like something bad is going to happen?
