Josh sets the record straight about Jake

Capt. Phil and his boys
I read the comments left on this website and on our Facebook page. Everyone was surprised, if not shocked at the revelation that occurred near the end of the last episode of the “Deadliest Catch”. Personally, I did not expect that scene between Capt. Phil and his son Jake. It was very hard to watch… very uncomfortable at best. As it turns out, Jake’s brother Josh was also surprised when watching last night.
In an interview with AOL, Josh states, “Actually, my dad kept that little part [Jake's pill stealing] from me, so I didn’t know. Discovery hasn’t shown me the footage they’re using. I got a heads-up that it happened, but my dad never informed me about this little situation that took place, so last night was the first time I got to see it. It’s always a shock. Everyone’s got their trials and tribulations.”
Many of you have questions about how Jake is doing today. Currently, he’s in Alaska salmon fishing which is what he normally does this time of year. But, I’ll let Josh tell you about his family in his own words. Please click here to read the full interview from AOL. The F/V Cornelia Marie just finished Herring tendering and is now getting ready to go Salmon tendering. I will update more about the boat later.

I just want to say that Freddy really did a great job being there for josh when Josh didnt know what to do next. It was the best advice and proved to be the best thing to do. Sharing that his own father had passed away while opilio fishing and going to pick up a dead body instead of being there when his dad passed was an important point. I think he saved Josh a lifetime of regret. I also felt like he needed to be there with Jake, Jake needed his older brother. I was also impressed that Johnathan from the Time Bandit was there for those boys. I was kinda pissed at Johnathan for the way he handled his beef with keith but I saw the good side of him again when Phil was sick. It seems all is good agian between the two now. I have watched since the first season, I feel like they are all my friends. God Bless all of you.

Dear Captains and crew of the entire F/V Fleet of the Bering Sea,
I tip my hat with the utmost respect, to each & everyone of you. We’ve never met, probably never will but from viewing “the show”(thank you Discovery)
,I get a sense that I do know of you therefore have grown to admire your courage, tenacity and skills on that treacherous body of water. As honest as I can possibly be, I’m not too pleased about the discovery channel milking the plight of Captain Phil, his boys, etc.
If the Internet did not exist, I KNOW their would be a litany of viewers still
holding vigil, hopes and prayers for Mr. Harris’ recovery based on the June 28th episode aired in Canada. All the while, Captain Phil Harris, God rest his soul, had left us on February 9th. Correct me if I’m wrong but the discovery channel made no mention of
The loss of Captain Phil, which subsequently led droves of viewers to
believe he was still with us. I think it
is in poor taste, however, if it lines the pockets of Jake and Josh and the
“crab fleet”, acceptance is my only option and ultimately, it’s none o’ my
business, at all.
May Creator look over & keep the Harris’ and the F/V fleet safe, forever.
In earnest,
Craig Williams

Mr. Williams….I am not certain of what Discovery Channel shows in Canada but, when Captain Harris passed, Discovery had a memorial marathon of Deadliest Catch, with his image and passage date in the corner of the screen. Also, according to posts on other blogs, the Captain wanted the scenes to be shown in the hospital. So, to give Discovery some slack, they have been vigilent on his and his family’s views regarding these upcoming episodes. As hard as they are to watch, I do believe that there is much regard to the sensitivity to what exactly happened and to what the family wanted to express. In closing, my heart, as well as MANY others, is very saddened by Phil’s passing. I do look forward to seeing his boys take on his reign and succeeding to their best potential. This world has been blessed with these boys and their father…Godspeed, Phil!

I was 27, 25 years ago when my dad passed away. He was 55 and starting in Korean War a heavy smoker until he was around 35-40.
I started smoking when I was around 14 and continued to smoke except for a 2 year time, right up until 11:30 p.m. this past Wednesday, June 30 at which point I stopped and admitted to myself that “I’m an addict to nicotine.”
July 1, I turned 52. My wife and I are avid DC fans and I just want you to know that I am taking it one day at a time, keeping you both in my prayers and appreciate the same. God bless and keep you both safe — on land and sea. Will

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your huge loss. Thank you for sharing your loss with us in the DC. I’m sure it was difficult having the cameras rolling and in your faces during that difficult time. We will all be crying with you during the future episodes.
Jake, I’m glad you came clean with your dad about your habit. I was disillusioned at first when your Dad almost disowned you, but then did a complete about face when you came clean with him. You know your dad would have been there to support you in your rehab. He will still be with you in spirit.

My heart goes out to Josh & Jake and their family. It’s never easy loosing someone you love. You have both had a tough time growing up under the scrutiny of cameras and media.
Life is hard enough. Lean on the Bering Sea Family and the CorneliaMarie Crew to help you both through all the hardships you will endure. It seems you have a very strong group to help you both through your grieving. Don’t forget Jake of the Northwestern, he really needs a support group with what he is dealing with as well. Keep your family & friends close and let them get you through this tough time. Phil will be greatly missed by all who have grown to love him over the years just by seeing what kind of dad he was as well as a man. That man had a BIG heart and loved you guys. Be strong and be there for each other, your Dad would have wanted that. Keep all your fond memories close and use them frequently.
Take care & stay safe.

I have been watching deadliest catch from the very first season so I feel like I know all the crew members on each boat. My dad is the father of 4 girls only….. and he is a multi generation sugar cane farmer….. But we all love deadliest catch. I have cried for almost every episode this season. I work in the medical field- in the ER mainly, so I see a lot of this stuff daily. Watching Phil go through this has just been the most awful. Having to watch the whole fleet family deal with this has been heart breaking. Tough. Tough. Tough. I’m addicted to the show and it’s “stars”. The show “baby sat” me through many rough nights of my own medical issues in the beginning. I couldn’t imagine not watching or following. My heart is broken for everyone. Phil was a great guy with a huge heart. I wish Josh and Jake great luck with living their dad’s dream and feel certain that they will make him proud.

My heart and condolences go out to his friends and crew, in particular his boys and Freddy. I can’t imagine what they are going through and everyone handles grief differently and in their own way. I have been a fan of Deadliest Catch since it first was on television. I am a 44 year old female from Michigan. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2004. I am married with three children ages 20, 19, and 18. MS is a terrible no forgiving monster. I craved your show for one reason. It made me think of other people that also have it hard. Yet at the same time I feel lucky that I have MS, and I know that you all feel lucky for your choice of crabbing. You see when you are given or choose something that has many trials, you really find out who your true friends are and the inner strength that we have. I have had so many people that say to me, “Oh my gosh, you poor girl. If there is anything that I can do call me.” Then when you need them and you call them, they have every excuse in the world why they can’t help. Those people are superficial. As I had said I have followed Phil from day one, I have seen all the problems that he has had with his health and so forth. Yet he never gave up. I try to follow his determination. He has been a role model for me, he has shown me that I can’t give up, I may not have a perfect life, but it’s my life. And the friends that I have are truly my friends. I know that my husband loves me for me, not for superficial reasons. For that I am deeply grateful. For all that Phil has given me, and his memory and sons that will continue to give me I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are all in my prayers, and just know that you two boys and all the crew are richer than most millionaires could wish to be.
Thank you again

Jake and Josh–I don’t know if you read these comments but I want you to know that my heart is with you. Your Dad was a grizzly on the outside and a marshmellow on the inside. His love for you was and is fierce and probably the hardest thing about dying for him was not his own death but leaving you. My own Dad died when he was 46. He was the family anchor and unless you’ve lost your Dad no one really knows what it’s like. You were fortunate, I was fortunate to be so loved so deeply. Jake I hope you will especially take care of yourself. No one will replace your Dad but you have a huge circle of people who love you. Take care, Maureen
P.S. Jake–it was awesome that you gave your Dad an ice chip when he asked for it in the hospital. That’s the spirit of your Dad in you. He would have done the same for you. Josh–you showed strength not giving him ice. Although you show have given him ice ( :) ) not giving him ice showed strength. You were looking out for your Dad.

I lost my father when I was 13 years old, he was 46, not much younger than your amazing dad, Phil. I have three brothers and a sister and at one time or another we all leaned on each other. My father was no crab fisherman, but he was my hero none the less. He rose from a poor street kid to an executive and a man remembered for his hard work, dedication to his family and his love. The same can be said of your father from what we have seen on the show and my sympathy and sorrow are with you. I know I am not alone in saying that. You are brothers and sons of a proud, good man and you need each other. I know am a few months late in sending this and you might never read this, but my hope is you will help each other. It honors your father and all the fathers before him. God bless.

Captain Phil is my favorite captain on the show with Keith coming in second. I feel I was able to connect with Phil easier than the rest. He was a person whom I would have been friends with if I ever had the good fortune to know him. Josh, I watched you grow from a boy to a man on the show. You have become a responsible man who could be proud of his growth. Jake, I certainly hope you attended rehab and are now clean and sober. If not, get yourself into rehab now. Its what your father wanted for you. You owe him that much.
To Cornelia Marie, we do not know you, we only know of the ship named Cornelia Marie. I just learned last night there was a real person behind the ship’s name. I know you must also be in mourning with Phil’s passing. You can’t have employed someone for 20+ years and not grieve their death.

I’ve known since the news of Phil’s collapse early this year. Phil and his crew were my favorites on the Cornelia Marie. I cried like a baby watching the events unfold knowing the tragic outcome that will come to a conclusion on DC soon. I was saddened to see Jake and Josh fighting…tragedy either tears families apart or makes them tighter. I am hoping for the latter for the brothers.
Jake, it’s time for you to stop escaping real life with drugs. You are missing out on so many wonderful things, at your age or any age, it’s a true catastrophe. Man up and make your Dad proud…he is watching you.
Josh, a hell of a lot has been put on your shoulders. You’re the strong and responsible one and at this time God is going to be the one to pull you through with your loss of your dad and Jake’s addiction. Don’t cut Jake slack and take him to his meetings. I pray for you both, but pray for you for the strength needed to help pull your brother through…it’s going to be tough.
I’ve watched this show for years…gawd help me when Discovery has a marathon because I’m watching DC all day long! It’s like I know all of you guys out there crabbing and I cheer for you all.
Jake (Time Bandit), I hope all goes well for your father. I have not heard news outside of DC, I pray all is well. (((hugs for Jake and his family)))

Just as I grieve for Phil, I am full of admiration for the two of you, and I just know you’ll do him proud. You already have. Keep your eye on the goal and know your “family” is pulling for you both. Much love….

Josh and Jake (and family),
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your huge loss. Thank you for sharing your loss with us in the DC. I’m sure it was difficult having the cameras rolling and in your faces during that difficult time. We will all be crying with you during the future episodes. I stocked up in klennex
Jake, I’m glad you came clean with your dad about your habit. I was disillusioned at first when your Dad almost disowned you, but then did a complete about face when you came clean with him. You know your dad would have been there to support you in your rehab. He will still be with you in spirit.
I hope you can beat this for your dad.
we love you all, I did get htis someone else, but its excatly what I wanted to say, Best of luck to you all, I do feel like I know parts of you, and my heart goes out to all the Cornila family
Best of luck to all
