Josh sets the record straight about Jake

Capt. Phil and his boys

I read the comments left on this website and on our Facebook page. Everyone was surprised, if not shocked at the revelation that occurred near the end of the last episode of the “Deadliest Catch”. Personally, I did not expect that scene between Capt. Phil and his son Jake. It was very hard to watch… very uncomfortable at best.  As it turns out, Jake’s brother Josh was also surprised when watching last night.

In an interview with AOL, Josh states, “Actually, my dad kept that little part [Jake's pill stealing] from me, so I didn’t know. Discovery hasn’t shown me the footage they’re using. I got a heads-up that it happened, but my dad never informed me about this little situation that took place, so last night was the first time I got to see it. It’s always a shock. Everyone’s got their trials and tribulations.”

Many of you have questions about how Jake is doing today. Currently, he’s in Alaska salmon fishing which is what he normally does this time of year. But, I’ll let Josh tell you about his family in his own words. Please click here to read the full interview from AOL. The F/V Cornelia Marie just finished Herring tendering and is now getting ready to go Salmon tendering. I will update more about the boat later.

I was there on day one of this show. I never expected to be so riveted to a fishing show. Yes, I know it is much more than a fishing show, but that is how I viewed it. Suddenly saddened when Capt. Phil passed. I am not a cryer, but I wept like a little girl. Boys carry on…do what you need to do to get you through the tough times. But, try to do it without outside substances. Talk to someone, cry, get mad, etc. I will keep watching as long as there is a Deadliest Catch. Good luck to all.

I have watched every episode of deadliest catch since the beginning, and to see Phil Harris pass was shocking. He is and always will be the KING of crabbing. Hopefully Josh will pick up where his dad left off and make him proud. Just remember, dreams can be made reality, just have to reach for it, and one day it will come true. I am eager for the next season to start already, and it would be a travisity to justice not to include the cornelia marie.

I have watched the show from day 1. I will never fuss about the price of crab again. You all did such a good job, and the show did not change any of you, you never let it get to your head. Your Dad will be sorley missed. My heart goes out to you to, but a lot of prayers are being said for your family. I hope you all come back, if not I wish you all the best life has to offer you. You are both strong, and have a good heart. You will make it far, your Dad taught you well . Farewell to Dad and the best Captain on the Bering Sea Captain Phil, we love you, and remember your Dad is your Angel now. Good luck boys, and take care

I want to say that i really enjoyed Deadliest Catch. I thourghly liked to personal touch they have and Capt. Phil and his sons. I think they should have his boat on next season and hopefully his boys on the boat keeping up the family tradition. I think their dad would want that. As a viewer of the show
i would hope Discovery will do the right thing. It is interesting and exciting, i want to see them back.

Captain Phil was a loving father, a great sea captain and a man who had a lot of clever “one liners”. His presence will be greatly missed. He is in my thoughts and prayers. My heart goes out to Josh and Jake and Captain Phil’s family and friends. God’s spped Captian Phil. May you have calm seas. O:)

This isn’t just a television show … these are peoples lives. Thank you for sharing your life’s work with the rest of the world.
Coming from a long line of Norwegian fisherman, I understand to some extent what type of man it takes to do this job.
I am so sorry for the loss of Capt. Phil Harris. Without knowing it – he touched many lives.
I want to thank Josh & Jake for allowing us to follow this story. It must have been a hard decision to make.

I never missed an episode of Deadliest Catch. All of the captains are great but Captain Phil help a special place in my heart. Maybe it was his outspoken manner, I just don’t know. However I do know that he loved life and more importantly, he loved his sons as much as is humanly possible. He may have seemed hard on them at times, but he was doing it for them. All young men need a dad like Phil. To Jake and Josh, you continue to be a part of my daily prayers. May God bless and keep you both safe in whatever you do.

My prayers are still going out to Jake. What he did was hard, going through rehab. It takes more of a man to get help, then to continue with drugs. Josh, I know things were hard on you, when your dad died. My prayers also went out to you too.

May the Lord look out over both of you boys. And I’ve never missed a episode of Deadliest Catch, and look forwards to seeing both of y’all back out on the Bering Sea during King Crab season, to spread your dads ashes.

I’d just like to express how proud I am of Jake and Josh Harris. I’m a disabled combat vet of 13 years in Army and have dealt with loss in my own ways. It’s never easy to say the least, but you’ve both carried yourselves and your father’s namesake incredibly well and done so as men from what I’ve seen and read. I’m sure you’ve both got a wonderful support system going but as far as I’m concerned one can never have too many pats on the back. Well done,
men… well done and Godspeed in your future endeavors.
