Deadliest Catch Fleet starts King Crab Season
On October 15, the Alaska King Crab fleet started the 2009 King Crab Season. Among these boats include those on the “Deadliest Catch”. Our boat, the F/V Cornelia Marie is on the ground fishing now. Unlike last year at this time, things are going well for our boat and crew (knock on wood). Last year we had many mechanical problems that delayed our King Crab start.
If fishing is good, we’ll have a couple trips out to sea before we reach our quota. Of course, there are always things to keep it interesting. This season we have an “Observer” on board.
Thanks to our friends at Dutch Harbor Dirt Blog for the pics.

Hi Captian Phil and Crew,
Even though King Crab season is going to be short, I want to wish you all a safe and profitable catch with calm seas and the wind at your back. I have just one question – who is this observer on board?
Stay Safe!

Thinking of all you guys out there. I hope everyone comes back safe and sound and the one thing I do hope is that Keith has an “observer” on his boat for safety concerns. All the safety videos in the world will never change my mind of how unsafe he is and the idiotic chances he takes, and those are only the ones we KNOW about.
Godspeed…………..

Good luck to you Phil/sons and crew. I hope you guys have a great King Crab season. IM also very glad to see your health is for the better Phil. Our health is our wealth. I can’t wait until the end of November , my wife and I usually have the biggest King Crab we can find just for the two of us usually before Turkey day. Thanks again Phil for sharing your life with us , I hope they have rewarded you for your work to go with your catches of the season. God Bless you and yours from me and mines. Jim from So.Cal.

Happy Halloween Phil & crew! Hope all is well and the fishing is great. When are you guys going to make it Ocean Shores? It would be an event! One weekend every July is a huge biker party. Anyway, safe travels and all the best. I look forward to the updates and the next season of shows and hopefully an Ocean Shores appearance in the not too distant future! This nurse hopes you are feeling and doing well, Phil. Take good care.

Hi. We enjoy watching the Deadliest Catch. I live in Astoria, Oregon, a fishing town and recently ran into a friend who’s dad, Ralph Peitsch, fished with Capt. Phil’s father in Alaska many years ago.
Good luck with this season’s fishing.

Jim,
The King Crab season is going well – compared to last year the boat is not breaking down (knock on wood). We have a much smaller quota this year (everyone does) so it wont’ take us as long. I’ll have a blog out shortly when they’ve wrapped it up.

Wow ! thank you Morgan , with a smaller quota , I wonder if it will be more exspensive this year ? )-: We usually get it as fresh as we hopefully can around the end of November. I got two monster legs last year that came out to about 3lbs and cost me about 30.00 dollars. My wife and I have been talking about those babies ever since , although we have had others over the past year a few times , they didn’t come close to those 3lb monsters we got last year. Be safe Morgan and thanks for the info. Jim

Good luck and a prosperous season! I always wonder how full the crab cage will be. Nothing better than nice full crab cages as opposed to seeing them come in empty. It is great to see the crab boats recover when they come up with no crab and then get back on track!

You hit the nail on the head. Keith is absolutely the most irresponsible Captain I have ever had the displeasure to observe… What was he thinking with that tarp last year??? MAYBE THEY SHOULD HAVE SECURED THE TARP “BEFORE” THEY LEFT THE HARBOR INSTEAD OF IN THE MIDDLE OF A HURRICANE… DUMBASS/GREENHORN
Always Praying for you Phil
Rock on TIME BANDIT !!!
Dont let people get you down about letting Russell go. People who disapprove are not deck hands and are not doing your job as a Captain. These people fail to realize that this is a business you are running. To run a business that is effective, you have to have the best people… You had to make a business decision, you made it, its a done deal, so there it is there!
GOD BLESS all of the crews this year…

Wow ! IM still trying to figure out if these guys have had a good season or not ? The king crap in so. Cal was very small sized this year and the pickings have been not so good ? IM not as much into the snow crab . I keep going to my market (Albertsons) weekly only to find slim pickings. )-: and these counter guys don’t know anything about how the crab season has gone , they just put the stuff out. Prices seem to be about the same as last year (to a degree anyway) but as far as the K.C. I picked up last year , nothing close this year on my end so far and that was in November of 2008. Go figure ? How you and your crew have been safe and have had a good season Phil ? Jim

Shit ! IM so so sorry )-: I cried for Phil , this really sucks ! The last few pic’s I saw of Phil he was looking great ! even looked like he had lost weight and even had a younger look to himself. IM so sorry Josh for you and your brother loss guys. I hope and pray you both will continue on in your fathers name. It would seem he taught you both well. I can only imagine the stress your father and both of you guys go through out there….you guys are either true men or your nuts or both. IM your dads age and I would have loved to have met him and had a beer or two. I just don’t have the words here to express my deep sorrow here for the Harris family and all that were connected to them , as I felt I was through the TV set. What in God’s name happen ? I know it’s very soon , but IM just trying to figure out what happen to Phil ? This sucks ! God Bless to the Harris family and friends. Jim F.
