Cornelia Marie near collision with Deadliest Catch Chase Boat

lisa_marie_near_collisionIt has been reported on other websites and forums that the F/V Cornelia Marie was hit by the Deadliest Catch chase boat. As it turns out, our boat was never actually hit, but experienced a near collision that had everyone concerned. The picture to the left and the video below show a near collison that occurred between the F/V Lisa Marie and the Deadliest Catch chase boat, the F/V Sea Star. This event happened at the beginning of the King Crab season last year.

Since the boats are both moving so dramatically, the most stable shot for the camera person is one that is hand held. When shooting hand held, it’s best to shoot on a wide angle lens to lessen the shakiness of the shot. This is why the chase boats get so close to the fishing boats; because they can’t really zoom in.

Meanwhile, the F/V Cornelia Marie continues fishing for King Crab. Our season is short due to lower quotas, but is going well. We have made one delivery to St. Paul and will be finished soon.

Nikki, The F/V Cornelia Marie is named after my mother - Cornelia Marie Devlin. She is majority owner of the boat with Capt. Phil has partner.

Howdee and THX! for the update. It is hard watching anything on TV, tell the production crew to speed it up, so we can see you guys! The other shows are so boring.

That’s a little sketchy. The cinimaphotograpers might be a little trigger happy. It’s not worth a good shot to risk a serious collision on the Bering Sea. Someone should tell them to back off. Thankfully everything was okay, but since this has happened more than once, maybe they need to establish some safety margins. These are human lives we’re talking about!

I would not want to be the Captain of the Chase Boat. He has a harder job than any other boat in those treacherous waters!

if you saw after the catch -the reason
the lisa marie almost collided with the
sea star is because the lisa marie capt,
i think was named wade henley was
    distracted,not watching outside and
    his navigation/auto pilot malfunctioned
capt larry of seastar was quick to avoid
