Capt. Phil memorial: April 30th in Seattle
On April 30, 2010 Discovery Channel will be hosting a public memorial to pay tribute to Capt. Phil. The memorial will be the day before CatchCon and located at the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91 in Seattle. Jake and Josh will speak about their father. In attendance I would expect Sig Hansen, Johnathan & Andy Hilstrand and Keith Colburn. I would imagine other captains and deckhands will also be in attendance. My mom, Cornelia Marie Devlin may also be there to support the boys.
I have heard from many fans who are going to attend. I recently talked to a fan from Woodbridge, New Jersey who is flying out just to attend the memorial. Pixie was unable to get tickets to CatchCon the following day, but decided to come out and pay her respects to Capt. Phil. Pixie admits its a long way to travel, but feels its important to make the trip. She is “going out for Phil” but is also going out of respect for her good friend Ray. Ray was also a fisherman who passed away, but wasn’t honored with a memorial or funeral. She never had a chance to say “goodbye”.
Pixie says she admires Capt. Phil and the rest of the fishermen because of their passion and work ethic. “They risk their lives for their passion and actually love what they do”. She thinks a big draw of the show is the danger the men face. “Everybody is used to the security of their daily lives”, states Pixie.
Pixie and I also spoke about the work ethic of Alaska Crab fishermen. We both agree that some members of the younger generation are used to getting things handed to them. Pixie and I both grew up with the concept of – “If you wanted something, you worked… and worked hard to earn it.” I look forward to seeing Pixie at the memorial along with the rest of the people who show up to pay their respects. The fans of “Deadliest Catch” are straight-up good people – each one with their own story. It will be a celebration of Phil’s life and to the idea that you can still get ahead with hard work and determination. Follow her @pixieink on twitter.

Thank you for sharing with us Morgan. I wish I would have been able to come to the memorial too, but can’t. I am looking forward to watching the memorial on the live feed and CatchCon too.
I too grew up with the concept of “If you wanted something, you worked… and worked hard to earn it.”

What time is the memorial. I must be blind but I don’t see a time in the article. I met Phil last Sept at the Doobie Brothers concert. We spent an hour together waiting to meet the Doobie Brothers back stage. I am very sad that he has passed. Shocked to say the least.

5 of Phils long time fishing partners gathered together in Astoria, OR. to honor their friend. This one of a kind DVD is available at http://www.commercialfishermensfestival.com The DVD also includes pictures of his private memorial and photos sent to us by his closest friends. This is a must have for Phil fans.

I wonder will this be shown on Discovery Channel in Europe too? Being in Galway, Ireland we don’t get a chance to see some of the things that are seen in the States. I would love to watch it.

Thanks for the headsup but it’s a little to late to make plans to travel so far with little notice. My family and I would have loved to attend and show just how much Capt.Phil might to us all. It would have been a nice way to pay respects to his family too. I hope that there is never another service to attend for any of these great men who risk their lives for a buck and a few crabs. I understand the why but isn’t giving up your life a bit too much for the cause? all our kind thoughts and prayers are with the harris family. May God ease their pain of the loss of their dear father, son,
Gods Speed Capt.Phil. See you on the other side my friend.

Morgan, Another great posting of one of the fan of the Cornelia Marie. I love to read what you post. I know that Josh and Jake have many loyal fans around the world. And they are always in are thoughts and prayers forever. The first year of losing a loved one is very hard, I know it was for my family and I when we lost our day, the day after Thanksgiving in 2006. The boys just need to remember how much their dad loved them and just rememember the good times. And remember that their Dad is watching from heaven with so MUCH LOVE.
I love the show and the crew and family of the Cornelia Marie.
Thank you

I watched the memorial online while on the road here in Arizona. I got the offer for a CatchCon pass after I’d already committed to this trip otherwise I’d have been there.
For Pixie and everyone who’s ever lost someone they love and admire, my heart goes out to you. It’s never easy when you don’t get the opportunity to say goodbye. Heck it’s not easy even when you do.
Morgan, thank you for keeping everyone informed!
God bless you!

I watch the memorial for Captain Phil and I thought it was a job well done. I loved the film that they did on him and his famous quotes. One of my favorites is the crab farts clip, that one still makes me laugh. In all a job well done.
And again Morgan thank you very much for your posting.

Watched a replay of the memorial service, a fitting tribute to a great captain. Was pleased and slightly shocked to hear the poem “Do not stand at my grave and weep” as I had sent a copy of this to a tribute site specially for Captain Phil.I know others probably sent a copy of this poem as well , but it would be nice to think that it was my copy that was read out.I couldn’t get to the service in person as I live in England. Will never forget Captain Phil.R.I.P.

Captain Phil was/is a one-of-a-kind. I still sigh and shake my head when I remember he’s gone now. I’m just grateful I got a chance to know him on Deadliest Catch, and I am comforted he is on film for me to continue to enjoy. He was the salt of the earth and he made my personal tough time a little bit easier through the show. America is going through such a tough time, and Capt. Phil epitomized the American commercial fisherman, and the American spirit!
Thank you, Morgan for keeping this site going. The Capt. Phil fan club still needs it, and probably always will. WE WILL NEVER FORGET CAPT. PHIL and the Cornelia Marie.

theres so much in the episode where phil and his son talked about his addiction that hit me very hard.i lost my father at 20yrs old to alcohol addiction.it was feb 14 of 1987.now im a father and my wife had a operation where the docs said she would never have children.i honestly praid to god for a twin of me son like me and my father.around 6 months later, she was pregnant, thank you god and he was born in nov of 96 and he looked so much like me that the nurse said i know where your son is i dont need your name when i went to see him,he was 4 weeks to early causing him to stop breathing sometimes.i became a addict myself in 2001 when i was put on pain meds after a operation,it led me to heroin when the doc stopped the pills after it was to late and i was addicted.so the late phil harris and his sons really hit me because my father was like phil,a down to earth good man whom had problems in his life, his son reached out to him and was gonna do meetings with his son.the lord has a funny way of taking good people away, while leaving scumbag rapist, molestors, crooks,i could go on.theres no goods that if they was gone no 1 would even care or know, then theres men and women like phil, whom do the right thing, work hard, love the family, and for what and why they are taken from us,ill never know.im scared to death because im a good man also,so i guess ill be one of the short life ones also.but ill not become something im not,too live a long life.to jake, get the help son and do the right thing for your dad,he is watching and still, loves you all, mike
