Cornelia Marie thanks you for your support

My mother Cornelia Marie and I wish to thank everyone for your support on behalf of Josh, Jake and the rest of the family. During this most difficult time you have expressed your sadness and offered your prayers and good wishes. Many of you have also shared your concern for Phil’s boys. Many nice of words have been written in emails and comments – we appreciate them all.
Many of you have asked if the “family has a charity, group or cause they would like donations to be made in Capt. Phil’s memory”. Capt. Phil supported certain causes and something will be setup shortly. Once it is, we’ll post it here.
Anything sent to the address below, will be hand-delivered to Jake, Josh and Phil’s dad by a close family friend.
Captain Phil Harris
PO Box 32466
Amarillo, TX 79120-2466
Thank you so much for all the kind words. We will post more later.

King Crab Christmas Feast Winner!
We have a winner! I am happy to announce the winner of our “King Crab Christmas Feast”. We had a total of 220 entries but one winner. Her name is Ferris Sanders from Englewood, Colorado. I just got off the phone with her and she’s very happy. She watches Deadliest Catch with her niece and is a fan of Cornelia Marie and Capt. Phil. I told her 20 pounds is a lot of crab to eat, but her family is coming over so she’ll have plenty of help – and I would imagine a lot of “thank yous”. Of course, when I first told her, she didn’t believe me and said, “Get out of here!”. Spoken like a true Cornelia Marie fan. Maybe she’ll send us a photo later.
Fishex.com will now send Ferris 20 pounds of Alaska’s best King Crab. Fishex.com is Alaska’s premier fish market. If you didn’t win but still desire your own King Crab Christmas feast, try fishex.com – they’re the best!
Thank you to everybody who entered the contest. Merry Christmas to everybody from Capt. Phil, his boys Josh and Jake, the crew, Cornelia Marie and my family.

Bible Study from the Deadliest Catch?
Is it possible the Discovery Channel reality show we all love for it’s authentic display of real life drama can be a course for Bible Study? Apparently so… I found this site called “Deadliest Catch Bible Study” on our Deadliest Catch Social Network. This is for real – here’s an excerpt from the site on why he choose this TV show to use as a course to study the Bible.
Deadliest Catch on Discovery Channel is not scripted, although it is edited. Even with editing, it remains gritty, emotional, and some might find it “offensive”; it is not for everyone. Remember that the Lord himself, was not crucified in a church between two candles, but in what was a dump outside Jerusalem, between two thieves, a place where people cursed and were cursed at, made money and gambled it away, prospered, merely survived or perished. Remember that people can be a perplexing combination of both sinner and saint. And there is no place where the action of God’s grace cannot reach.
Plus, the first ones the Lord called to journey by his side were… fishermen (Simon, Andrew, James and John). The Lord first called those who were tough, used to long workdays, could get things done, and deal with the disappointment of empty nets. Deadliest Catch may indeed be a very appropriate tool to engage in devotions or Bible study.

Cornelia Marie near collision with Deadliest Catch Chase Boat
It has been reported on other websites and forums that the F/V Cornelia Marie was hit by the Deadliest Catch chase boat. As it turns out, our boat was never actually hit, but experienced a near collision that had everyone concerned. The picture to the left and the video below show a near collison that occurred between the F/V Lisa Marie and the Deadliest Catch chase boat, the F/V Sea Star. This event happened at the beginning of the King Crab season last year.
Since the boats are both moving so dramatically, the most stable shot for the camera person is one that is hand held. When shooting hand held, it’s best to shoot on a wide angle lens to lessen the shakiness of the shot. This is why the chase boats get so close to the fishing boats; because they can’t really zoom in.
Meanwhile, the F/V Cornelia Marie continues fishing for King Crab. Our season is short due to lower quotas, but is going well. We have made one delivery to St. Paul and will be finished soon.

Cornelia Marie Models Needed
The Cornelia Marie online store is in desperate need of real life folks to show what the merchandise looks like. We do have some great models now, including Jake Harris and fans of the show… but we need more! If you want your image to appear in our online store, just visit http://drop.io/CorneliaMarie and easily upload your photo. Don’t worry about the size or quality, we’ll take care of that. If you have any trouble, just email the webmaster through the contact form on this website. I can’t guarantee that it will go in the online store section, but I’ll definitely include it on the site in the gallery section. Thanks to Nikki who sent in this great shot of her wearing our Indigo Blue hoodie.

F/V Cornelia Marie at Island Seafoods in Kodiak
One lucky guy from Island Seafoods had the pleasure of chatting with Josh Harris and Captain Murray of the Cornelia Marie last week after returning from tendering herring in Togiak Bay.

“Josh and Capt. Murray are busy getting the boat ready to head back up to Bristol Bay to tender salmon in the fast and furious Sockeye Salmon fishery. The boat will leave Kodiak in five days. Before the boat heads up to the Bay, Josh and Capt. Murray are going to fly down to San Diego to film the ‘After the Catch’ episode tomorrow. There the guys will meet up with Capt. Phil Harris, his younger son, Jake and the rest of the captains from the Discovery Channel’s hit show.”
Among other juicy tidbits, he also discovered that while Captain Murray will be running the boat for the summer season, Josh is headed to New York to participate in some Discovery Channel events and help promote the show and industry.

To view more details and tons of great pictures from Island Seafoods chat with Captain Murray and Josh aboard the Cornelia Marie, check out the Island Seafoods blog HERE. All I know is suddenly I have an urge to get a job with Island Seafoods…

FANCAST interview with Captain Phil Harris
I’m sure all the Deadliest Catch fans out there are just as excited as I am to see Captain Phil Harris back on the open sea. It’s great to see him back in his chair doing what he loves and spending some quality fishing time with Jake and Josh. Just can’t get enough of Captain Phil and the Cornelia Maria crew? Check out this FANCAST interview to get even more of your Captain Phil fix! Nobody is more aware of the struggles Alaskan Crab Fisherman face every season on the Bering Sea than Captain Phil.
“You got to be mentally tough. You got to drop all [your personal stuff] and forget all that. You’re just walking away from everything you know. You’re not going to be back for three months. That’s tough to do.”
Read about the Captain’s pet peeves, must-haves on any fishing trip and more in the FANCAST interview and of course, don’t miss seeing Captain Phil in person June 25th at Ray’s Food Place in Mount Shasta, California. Captain Phil will be at Ray’s from 4 to 7pm meeting, greeting and signing autographs to say “thank you” to his fans and customers. CATCHCON 2009 WRAP-UP
The Corneliamarie.com crew showed up to check out CatchCon 2009 on Saturday. Captain Phil and his son Josh were at the event. I know many fans and visitors to our site wished they could attend. Hopefully, the Discovery Channel will make accomodations for more people if they decided to do it again. I met the editor of threesheetsnw.com at the convention and their website did a great write-up of the event. Click here to read what happened. Below is an excerpt from the Q & A with the Captains.
