The F/V Cornelia Marie has been out of commission since the middle of February with a replacement of our “reduction gear” needed. This has been a costly and burdensome repair. The entire crew has been off since Capt. Phil’s memorial on February 21st.
Finally, the crew is headed back to Alaska to finish up the long Opilio season. We still have a couple of trips left to meet our crab quota. Unfortunately, most of Alaska, including Dutch Harbor is experiencing a late winter storm with blowing snow and freezing temperatures.
Despite the icy conditions, the Cornelia Marie is anxious to get back to work. The crew consists of Derrick Ray as skipper, Steve Ward as Engineer, deck boss Freddie Maugatai and deck hand Ryan Simpson. We will be hiring another fisherman from Dutch Harbor to help out while the boys are away. Josh and Jake are dealing with their father’s affairs and it is unknown if they will return to finish the season.
Tomorrow, Captain Harry Lewis from the F/V Incentive will be talking on the (internet) radio about Capt. Phil. Capt. Harry was a great friend of Phil’s and wanted to express his thoughts and share some fond memories. Tune in March 13, 2010 at 3 PM Eastern time at http://www.mhbradio.com.
The passing of Capt. Phil continues to weigh heavy on our minds. We are always grateful to everyone who emails. We do read them all.
Thank you for keeping all of this information so current for everyone. It cannot be an easy task at this time, but you have been great.
I also appreciate all the updates. I wish the crew a safe trip on finishing the season.
thank you so much Morgan for this .. i cannot imagine how hard this has been for your family … all the best to yous and to the Harris Family at this time … you are all strong and will make it thru .. know you have the thoughts and prayers of many … Corix
Thank you for always keeping us posted. We really appreciate it and I wish everyone out fishing right returns safely. All best to you and the Harris Family.
i know your dad will be with you at sea…have a safe trip
Five of Captain Phils friends and long time fishing partners gathered together to honor their friend. Present were Captains Rick Quashnick (F/V Maverick) Derrick Ray (new captain of F/V Cornelia Marie) Harry Lewis (F/V Incentive)David Lethin (F/V Aleutian Ballad) and Jim Wilson. This tribute DVD is awesome and will soon be available. Pre-order your copy at [email protected] proceeds help fund the Commercial Fishermen’s Festival and it’s signature event, The Captain Phil Harris Highliner Competition.
Morgan: Thanks for the update. It must be hard on the crew to fish so soon after loosing Phil – they seemed to work so well together and it can’t be easy for Capt. Derrick to fill in the middle of a season. But fishing must go on and there is an opie quota to fill. The CM is a working F/V and it needs to be fishing. Can you answer a technical question? What is the reduction gear? Thanx, Lin
I really hope things go easier for your family. Capt Phil’s loss was such a hard punch in the gut for my family and we have looked forward to all updates just so we might feel like we are grieving with you. My 2 year old doesn’t understand yet why she won’t see he teddy bear captain anymore. It’s so hard to explain to her at that age. Here in Virginia we are praying and pulling for your families. God bless Captain Phil and the wonderful crew and families.
Deadliest catch is a brilliant show and phil was just a really nice dad and boss josh and jake are really good sons and a credit to their parents rip phil and god bless josh and jake good luck to the crews of the fishing vessels of the berrings sea cheers
Thank you Morgan for the update, when it rains it pours for the Cornelia Marie and the crew. Just hang in there guys, you can do it.
Love you guys.
Thank you very much Morgan for all the updates, I am glad that I get information through this website, because we don’t get any news in the Netherlands.
As usual life will go on, but Phil sure will always be missed by his sons, his crew, family, friends and also by all his fans around the world. I wish the crew a good crab season and hope they will get their quota and return safe.
Josh and Jake, you are wonderful guys and your dad was proud of you both and he had a reason for that. Take time to cope / deal with the loss of your dad and try to give it a place. So many things happened in such a short time! You both are still in my thoughts!
Regards Fieneke from the Netherlands
I have never been to Alaska. I have never seen the Bearing sea. I have never been on, nor seen, a crab boat. I have never met Captain Phil, but like so many others, I feel like I have been to Alaska, been on the Bearing sea, and fished it on the C.M. The world was so fortunate to have had Captain Phil, via the show, to show us his trade. I will never forget some of his best, or should I say “Phil”, moments, such as the “Who said you could talk?” rant, or the “Fart Bubbles”, or so many others. It sounds so cliche, and has been said millions of times, but my heart is broken from this, and I wish nothing more than for everyone that knew captain Phil, in any form, to keep remembering him, and not let his legacy die too.
To Josh and Jake- They say that time heals all wounds, and while that may be true, there are scars that get left. Those scars can be good. Use them as a reminder of what your father was, and who he tried to be. Remember his strength, his fight, his passion, his courage, and his love, and he will always be with you. His legacy will continue on thru you.
To Captain Phil Harris- I want to say Thank You. Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your world. Thank you for sharing what you do. Thank you for making us laugh. Thank you for making us smile. Thank you for showing us your passion. Most importantly, Thank you for being you. You will be missed by millions, and will continue to be loved by those same millions.
We all love you!
Sean-Cambridge, MN
It’s been a month since Captain Phil’s passing and I still can’t believe he’s gone.
Phil was an awesome guy and I only wish that I’d had a chance to ride our Harley’s together, drink a beer and have him tell me stories of life on the sea.
Phil – may the road rise up to meet you and may the wind always be at your back.
To Jake and Josh, I know the pain of losing a beloved father when it’s unexpected. Time will lesson your pain and you will find blue skies again.
Your dad was a wonderful man who was adored and will be missed by millions around the world. Know that you are not grieving alone. We all grieve with you.
I MISS YOU PHIL!!!!!
Forever your riding buddy,
Chrisie from Pulaski, WI
Reading all these posts makes my eyes blur with tears all over again that Capt.Phill is gone and I am crying over the loss of someone I have never met or spoken to.What an AWESOME MAN to have had such an effect on so many lives around the world. I know boys you have heard it so many times over the last few months but I am going to say it again I AM GOING TO MISS HIM SO VERY MUCH. I can’t imagine the depth of your loss as his children. Love and prayers to all of you family friends and crew. May God watch over you always
My heart still hurts & I still keep praying for Josh and Jake to get through this with the strength & courage shown by their Father so many times. Morgan, thank you for the updates, you are a treasure & a dear friend to us all. God bless you all & hugs from the Central Coast. Cheri
I have followed the show Deadliest Catch since it started. After the first show I was hooked on watching it. Hearing about the loss of Captain Phil was devestating. He was a great man to watch. Not working on the boats I learned a great deal from him just by watching him and how he handled the whole operation. He had a way to handle stress in a stressful place. I respect the way he controlled the boat, and the crew. He was firm, but fair that is how to get the job done by a great Captain. I enjoyed watching the big guy since the show started, and I will miss watching Captain Phil at the wheel.
To the Family
My heart goes out to you on your loss. The world lost a Great Man that was one in a million. I will never forget him.
Keep safe out there, crew!
I continue to keep the family in my thoughts and prayers. Keep your heads up Josh and Jake! Can’t believe it’s been a month…wow.
Jake, no one can replace the hole you are feeling, and certainly not alcohol or drug. Ask your self what would my dad do…not that I know him but I’d guess he’d say “get your sh it together.”
Most of us who lost our fathers never worked with them or have hours of film. You have memories most of us will never have. Don’t waste your life away by doing stupid things…get help, stop drinking, don’t be stupid.
Morgan – Thanks so much for keeping all of us posted. Here is hoping that the CM is back in the fishing business very soon.
I would also like to acknowledge Sean Little’s posting from Monday. Thanks for capturing the tone and saying just what I would have liked to say. I hope that Captain Phil knew how many lives he and his crew had touched. It will not be the same and he will be missed.
I just want to thank you all so much for having DC aired on Sunday 3/21/2010
I watched it all day. It made me cry to see Phil, but it was so good to see him.
My Best wishes to the Boys, and all the family. Thank you for sharing your Dad with all of us.

Have been watching a marathon of Deadliest Catch shows today and am looking forward to the new season to start in 3 weeks. We’ve enjoyed the show for several years now and were really saddened about Phil’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers continue for Phil’s family and friends, and we hope Jake and Josh will again be on the show. On a lighter note, when we were in Alaska 1 1/2 years ago, we were delighted to see (and wave at) the Cornelia Marie passing by the cruise ship we were on–truly an unexpected thrill.
je vous trouve courageux
I was aware of Phil’s passing in Feb. and felt as if someone I knew had died. We’ve been watching the show since the beginning and the Cornelia Marie with Phil and his sons are always our favorites. He had a way of reaching through the TV and getting to you. May the Lord bless you Phil Harris, I’m sure you’re in a better place, and may the Lord look out after his family and bring them comfort.
My greatest concern for Josh and Jake is that they may not allow themselves to grieve. It’s okay to be sad, it’s okay to be angry…it’s okay to do whatever you need to do(not self-destructive, though). My prayers are with them. All of the support from fans and friends is great, but hopefully the show won’t be a hindrence to their emotional recovery. God gives everyone wisdom in this matter.
It is nice to read about the whole situation. When i heard the news back than it hit us pretty hard. Although we did not know Phil personal, we have been watching and following “deadliest catch” since season 1.
Best wishes for the family and Jake and Josh on the boat.
I wish you guys all the best and safe fishing in the future!
Best regards from The Netherlands.
Watching some deadliest catch reruns on discovery and its tough to think that phil’s really gone..Captain Phil was always my favorite and I couldn’t wait to see more of him and his crew..
My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
To work as long as he did in thisver difficult trade is amazing in itself. I will miss seeing him on Deadliest Catch. To the sons, your dad said you were both ready to continue on and I for one would like to see you do that.
Best of Luck & Stay Safe !
My your pots be full of opi gold.
Josh and Jake,
You had a real cool dad who loved you both very much. Make him proud of you in whatever future endeavors you persue. We will all miss him. He brought smiles to all his television family (fans) and we are all richer for having known him. God Bless and keep you both.
Thank You Morgan for keeping us up to date. Phil is deeply missed by all of us. We will continue to keep you and your family in our prayers!
I’m sad to hear about capt. phill… my prayers are with u all. feels like it was just yesterday that i saw him in las vegas hitting tha black jack tables at the gold coast casino!
I wish I woulda went up and told him how much I admire him then!!!!!
and if you guys need someone to help out on the next season, i’m a HARD ASS worker. let me know! here’s my email
( [email protected] ) it would be an honor….
sincerely, Aaron Blackburn
dear boys,
our thoughts and prayers go out to you all through your times of trial. there is no way to tell anyone how to deal with the pain other than to believe our loved ones pass on to a better place pain free..that we can be sure..take care guys and to all who Mr Phill Harris has touched.thanks for the experience.
Matthew Crisafi,Kellie Crisafi , Matthew Crisafi Jr.,Raven Crisafi
My sympathies to Jake, Josh and family.
For this season: go get em guys! Be careful. Love, Anne
Love the show. Capt Phil is my favorite Capt.Especially with interactions with his sons. Truly a family show of hard living, hard work, great rewards with true American spirit.Sorry for your loss as he was still very young.
Hello, I just wanted to say I’ve enjoyed watching the show and have immense respect for what you guys have to deal with to make a buck. I’m very sorry for your loss & will pray for the Harris family and friends and also for the brave souls who perished at sea. Take care & God Bless you all. PEACE. Sincerely,
John R. Plesha Sr.
thank you so much for keeping everything updated for us. i watched tonight’s new season. I am a big fan of the Harris family, may God Bless them and watch over them. My thoughts and prayers go out for the family.
All that love this show will feel the incredable loss of Capt. Phil. Although the show will always be our favorite I found it hard to hold back the tears even through the funny and intense moments. Crazy how they seem to be a part of our family. I have deep sympathy for his boys. We will understand if they do not return but they will be missed as much as their father!
Capt. Phil, May the skys be blue, the seas calm and your pots full. You are the only Captain I would ever want to work for if I did this job. God Bless you and your family. R.I.P.
My thoughts & prayers go out to Capt. Phil’s sons, his family and crew. It’s surreal to see him on T.V. and yet know he’s cross over to the Spirit World. As a Native American, we believe his spirit is in a good place and he will forever protect his sons. We love the show and yes, Capt. Phil was a favorite of ours. It’s truly amazing how one person’s life can become part of your family’s, even though we never truly interact with one another. I pray that those who were close to Phil can gently move forward and fulfill some of the Captain’s last orders. It would be nice to see his sons continue fishing in their father’s shoes, but it’s notably understandable if they wish to let go and pursue other goals. Our blessings go out to all of the fishing vessel crews as they continue to work for the livelihood. bmv
I enjoy(ed) watching the show with my 9 year old son. He loves updating me when i get busy with work. He now lives some distance away from me with his mom and he has called me twice crying about the show. Once to tell me of Phils passing and the other to tell me to watch Phil on his last season. The crews on DC are heroes to us all regardless of their social gripes. Phil was a good father and my son saw that in him. I thank him for showing that to him. Bless your soul and thank you for teaching me as well Phil. Know i shared those tears with my son. Keep on fishing DC we love you guys.
I am so sad at the passing of Captain Phil. My 4 year old son just loved Captain Phil. When i had to tell him of Captain Phil’s passing, he just looked at me and ask when he would be back, after I explained he said, He is an angel now. How true, we love ya Captain Phil.
It was surreal watching last nights episode, I have watched this show from the beginning and knowing whats going to happen brought out emotions in me I thought i didn’t possess. Capt. Phil has also been my favorite since the first show,I always pulled for him to do get the most “crab count”. It will be hard for my girlfriend and I to watch after this season. We watch very few shows together, but this was one of them. I’m 47 yrs. old and I literally cried when I heard the news. We will pray for the family and know that Phil is fishing with God now.
Sorry to hear that Phil had died,My husband and I watched all the time,I don’t watch a lot of TV but I always waited for the season to begin, and Phil was my favorite, you could tell he loved his boys, rough around the edges, he was but thats what it took to get the job done, my prayers are with the boys and family of Phil, may GOD BLESS YOU
So Sorry to hear about Captain Phil, he was my favorite!!!!
Josh and Jake my thoughts and prayers go out to both of you and your family… Your dad will be missed by all of us!!!I watched the first show last nite and to see Phil, just made me cry, but he is in a better place right now, with all the Angels!!!!God Bless!!!
Dawn
We will miss Captin Phil we all feel like we knew him because he was such a great guy on the show. I am happy that we still have a few shows to watch with him at the helm.
Jake and Josh be very proud to have had a father like him. You are both very smart men so I know you guys will make the right decision on where to go from here with your life. Would love to see you both back on the C.M. Its going to be a long road but the pain will ease up a little each day. Kepping you guys and your family in my thoughts.
Thanks for keeping us up on Capt. Phil’s family. Was he married? I don’t think I ever saw that addressed.Thanks.
Thank you for keeping the updates going. It was a very sad hour watching the first episode of the season. Capt. Phil will be greatly missed. He was both my and my father’s favorite person on the show. To Jake and Josh…, I lost my dad on Feb. 26, 2010. He was a life long tugboat captain in Mobile, Al which is about a 30 min drive from Bayou LaBatre (where the F/V Cornelia Marie was built).I grew up on the boat with him. He was born in Ketchikan. I was lucky enough to go w/him to Seattle and drive to Ak last year. The show reminds me of how beautiful it is up there. I miss him every day! Keep your heads up. Your dad is and will always be proud of you, you can see it when he looks at you. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Drop me a line if you like…
I have just been watching the season 6 opener of DC. Watching Phil sending his son to fish on another boat has hit me when I least expected it. My youngest son from my 1st marriage is in the Army and left yesterday for Kuwait. My daughter, who is also in the Army leaves on the 30th of April. If Phil and his boys could only have foreseen what was to come, perhaps things would have been different. I know he trusted Sig. I trust my children and their training. I can only hope that all of our children, those on the Bering Sea and those serving our country will return home to us safe and in one piece. I miss Phil and I wish the crew the best of luck and safe sailing, and to Josh and Jake, Love each other always and put aside your petty disputes. To all those who fish, may the wind be at your back, a fresh breeze in your face, and may all your pots be filled with keepers. Mike Breck
I just saw the seaon 6 season premier and I was taken back by a quote from Phil “you can either make it happen, watch what happened or wonder what the F*** happened” I think that will stick with me for a very long time. I hope the boys listened to their dad as he had his profound moments. R.I.P Phil, safe sailing and fertile fishing grounds
The show must go on. We all miss Phil like we would a family member. Josh and Jake are in our Hearts and Prayers. We are all still watching to see that they are ok. We need our conclusion, we need to see Josh and Jake back on the show. I think we all feel this way. They will make the show this season just by showing up after Phils Death. The show will not be the same without Phil but we need our closure.
“Some went off to sea in ships, plied their trade on the deep waters.
They saw the works of the LORD, the wonders of God in the deep.” -Psalm 107
May God Bless and keep Captain Phil in His loving hands. He and his family are in my prayers.
Watchin’ Phil was like watchin’ my Uncle Frank. Big gruff guy that would kick your ass if you got outta line, and was always there when you needed help. Watching this season is gonna be hard, even though I know we’ll see Phil again when our time comes. God bless the Harris clan.
Thank you Morgan and Cornelia Marie for all the updates regarding your fishing boat. I will pray for all of you and your crew members to succeed in your business. It’s tough times and it can’t be easy with all of this personal trauma you have gone through this year.
I love the show the Deadliest Catch I can not wait for the new season to start i enjoy the show so much and the people on the show although admittingly i do have a favorite the Cornelia Marie Captain Phil and the crew always had me smiling laughing and shaking my head. I loved Captain Phil and his passing is still heart breaking almost like you feel like you lose a dear friend when you watch them on tv it feels like they become apart of your life as funny as that sounds… I hope that Cornelia Marie will be able to continue on and that his sons will join in on the boat once again… I wish them a wonderful season and hope that the crab will come to the Cornelia Marie and that they will kick butt.. I know that Phil will be watching over his crew and his boat. I hope like Phil that you make sure you watch like he always did looking for those “fart bubbles” Good luck to you all on the Cornelia Marie may all you be safe on your journeys.
CORNELIA MARIE FAN…Jiala
RIP Capt. Phil. My partner & my thoughts are with your family at this difficult time. We shall miss him. God bless, Sally & Simon
I want to send my condolences to the family, and thank them for sharing with us over the last 5 years. Josh and Jake, you had a great father. We never think our parents know anything, but when they’re gone, we realize as we grow older, they were the wisest of all. God bless your family and we’ll be praying for you.
I just listened to the Dj that intervied Phil and it was good. Phil was Phil joking like he always did it was good to hear his voice. Phil was the kind of person that everyone liked he was very down to earth and had a magnetic personality that drew you to him like a magnet. He was a tough man but under that interior was a very loving father and friend to all. He really was a good father to his boys he loved them very much even though they did things that all kids do and have done. He always had some funny sayings also like the one that when he was mad at Josh he said ” I think that he is the milkmans son” but we all know that he was on joking that was Phil. He reminds me of my late Uncle rugged, ruff and spoke what was on his mind. My Uncle was onry like him always doing something to amuse people and you couldn’t help but like him. I give him praise as to the blood clots I had 2 of them myself on in the left leg and one below the knee and one in the groin and that was scary,I had a filter put in my vein that would catch the big clots and then destroy them the little clots weren’t that life threatening and I was surprised that they didn’t do that with Phil it might have saved his life.. Gone by closer to the heart.
hi, i just seen the beginning of season six and it looked like the cornelia was sinking! i was just wondering what boat it was since it obviously wasn’t the cornelia?
Howdy,
When I heard of Capt Phils passing earlier this year, I got weepy. As I watch this season, I seem to continue. I’m finally at the place where I can write something. (God what a melodramatic intro – sorry about that).
Of all the Captains on Deadliest Catch, Capt. Phil was the one I related to the most. He had an admirable combination of pragmatist and philosopher. To me, he was an every man (meaning nothing but the best), who took on the greatest challenge and loved to do so.
My Dad passed away about 13 years ago. I guess I’m saying I feel for you all, and I’m praying for you all. If you want me to pray for anything specific, please email it to me.
Thanks,
Jess Stuart
I just wanted to say i absolutely love deadliest catch, and captain phil is my personal favorite. I like Sig but i think he is a little more hollywood possibly than phil was. However, I am 23 and def. know what a loss like this feels like i lost my mother at 17. To Jake and Josh hold your heads up time will heal all pain. I think it would make your old man smile down on yall to get back on that boat and continue on with his legacy. However, i do also understand this may not be an easy task to take on whatever the case may be. My heart and prayers go out to the family and all the people that bust their ass for the show, crab, and fortune. Last but not least thank you for allowing us to enjoy a little piece of your life. I am in the oilfield and yall make what we do look like office work.
I have been a fan of Deadliest Catch since it began and I respect the hard work of these men. My sincerest condolences to Captain Phil’s family and to his crew.
My family has been in the fishing indus. for over 60 yrs. I want to thank the discovery channel for a great show and for all the great web sites they have put up for Capt. Harris. My two son’s and I watch every episode. We will keep the Harris boys and the entire crew in our prayers while they finish this season. We hope to see the Harris boys and the rest of the crew back next season. Smooth sailings Phil and may you rest in peace and watch over your boys and see what a wonderful father you were to them as they move forward.
I just watched the season opener of DC. Bittersweet. It’s good to see Cap’t. Phil and the boys. They’re in my thoughts often. God speed Captain Phil…Miss you….
My sincere condolences to Jake, Josh and the whole Cornelia Marie Family.
R I P Captain Phil knowing you were so loved by so many hopefully is a comfort to your family. One day at a time boy’s.
I will miss your everyman persona, so down to earth, now sailing above us in Heaven. Smooth Sailing Captain Phil.
Phil was my favorite Captain. He was tough, honest, hard-working and caring. We’ll miss him!
Josh and Jake, our hearts go out to you both.
Seeing Capt. Phil reminds me of my Dad especially when he said when we are out here at work your not my son its business (my Dad told me the exact same thing). You could just see it in Phil’s face when he was talking to his boys that even though he would set them straight his love was unconditional. What a man he was! He was real and there is not many more like him. May his family be blessed
He was and always will be “Deadliest Catch”. From the first second I watched this amazing show Captain Phill Harris was the reason I kept tuning back in, I was watching him and his crew fish when the show was just called Alaskan crab fishing. His pull no punches and nip it in the bud attitude and ofcourse, his ability to roll with whatever came his way with a smile, was what I admired most no matter how big the problem Phill handled it in only a way he could. He was a Captain and a father that I connected with and enjoyed watching. Rest in peace. You are missed.

TO the boys,no one needs to tell you what you need to do because he ‘s in your heart and fishing is in your blood. And to phil, thanks for being you, sail on brother.
Phil will be missed so dearly in my heart and inner soul of the beginning to the end. I can see to the future of his sons and reasons of needs. Fulfilling the dreams of their seen lives and such much desire to be at the hearted best. I give unto them the couriage to always stand up for what they have most in means in their heart to become the best. I value the soul of both of them and the heart and body of Phil. Truely the best is for the better been and mind of capture. With Love I see to the bid of farewell and the closure to be the in ward destiny of being. For the long term is the main of the desire and the short of the end. Love to them all from my heart to theirs.
phil you will be so missed by all R.I.P
Phill, you will be dearly miss. Our hearts sincerly go out to his family as this is surely a great loss. We have enjoyed watching him on the deadliest catch and his inspiration and determination will alway be close to our hearts. His lose has touched me like a lose of a family member would. Joah and Jake, we can only wish you strength in this tragedy and in hope to see you both live on in your dads legacy.
Phil, my daughter and I have been watching since the beginning. We lived with you on that boat with your guys and your boys. I felt the pain frustration fear and happiness with all of you. You will be so dearly missed!!! I love you as a member of my family and all you Cornelia guys! it hurts actully it breaks my heart seeing the show wondering whats happening now I never did any of this email stuff before but needed to express my love and sympathy. Phil you were the kind of man father and human being everyone should strive for. Fish hard in Heaven!!! Josh and Jake your father loved you so much watch the show and see how much you meant to him and how proud he was of you. Grieve as long as neeeded heal your hearts and look forward to becoming the kind of men your Dad knew you could be.
In my thoughts and prayers
When the family gathers to eat Alaskan crab I make sure the entire family prays for the safety of the fishing crews and remembers the sacrifice of the fishermen that gave their lives so we could eat such a delicious meal. Corn farmers rarely die plying their trade, but Alaskan fishermen often die so we can enjoy the bounty of the sea. So when you eat your crab dinner, say a prayer for Captain Phil and all the brave men that live and die by the sea.
r i p capt phil i watch deadliest catch every week me and my dad but has anyone heard if they plan on having a memorial service for him
I just want to say im sorry for your lose and i hope all is okay….. Jake and Josh we love you and i know it is hard but your dad is looking daown on you and he loves you both very much… I hope you are okay and dealing with this lose gracefully… with love the Mullane Family
just..I miss you.
Capt. Phil, You are not amoung us any
longer , but I know that you are with the fishing fleet each day and hour they are on the Bering Sea. Like the
Guardian , you are watching over every
ship that goes out in harms way .
So very sorry for your loss. You know he loves you both & will always watch over you. Remember the good times. I’m just a fan but I feel for all of you in this community of fishermen.
It would be good if Heaven had a phone so you could hear your dad’s voice again. you think of your dad today, but that is nothing new. you thought about him yesterday and days before that too. you think of him in silence, you often speak his name. All you have are memories and a picture in a frame. His memory is a keepsake from which you’ll never part.God has him in His arms. you have him in your hearts. for captain phil’s family may he rest in peace’ Our thoughts are with you all xx gail + don
Capt. Phil reminded me of my dad. I love Jake and Josh. My heart was broken when I heard that Phil has died. God bless all of the crab fishing fleet. I love all of those guys! I toast you with a “Duck Fart”.
Melinda
P.S. I am a 64 year old grandma of 8.
We did not kill Phil. He was an adult who made his own choices, glorified on the “Deadliest Catch.” He got caught. We are receiving tons of email about this sad death and wish to say that it was not our doing.

Our family is involved in the crab fishery as well here on the East Coast of Newfoundland. Our crew is our family and we feel your pain. The love that he showed to his sons will live on forever. Long May Your Big Jib Draw Phil!!! God Bless your family.
I will miss Phil I hope the boys pull through this and grow to be the men there father knew they will become
My condolences to all the crew of the CM.To Jake & Josh-keep making Captain Phil proud of you-it was very clear that after he’d kick your ass -he was very proud of both of you,and loved you very much.
from cape breton island, nova scotia, our thoughts are with harris family, as we are a fishing family too,, we have a vessel under construction ,, a 96 ft crabber,, and are concidering naming it the FV PHIL HARRIS
I’ve been a huge fan of DC since its first season. Unless it’s a sporting event, I don’t watch regular broadcast TV. History and Discovery are all I watch. DC is my favorite show on Discovery (Sorry Mike)
Things have been financially hard for me the past couple of years, so I haven’t had cable to be able to watch. I’ve been watching over this Memorial Day weekend and saw that Capt Phil had been experiencing some serious health issues. But, so far, in what I’ve seen, he’s been doing a great job of recovering. And now today, I saw on the Northwestern’s website that he passed a few months ago, which was a crushing blow. Sig and Phil are my favorite Captains in the fleet.
RIP Phil, the show won’t be the same, or as good without you.
Jake and Josh, rest assured that your father is someplace better, where there are no health issues, negative 20 degree temperatures, 40 foot rogue waves, and the pots all have 1000 keepers, which the processors pay $10 apiece for. I wish you both all the best in wherever your lives take you in the future and hope that I will continue to see you on the show in the future.
One more thing: Phil” Fair winds and following seas, my friend. Keep the sun on your bow and the wind and waves over your stern.”
Davey Jones, Poseidon and Neptune, watch out. Your match is on his way now.
I’m glad I read the recent news about
the f/v CM, I’m sure Jake and Josh et a.l. are really grieving as is members of “fleet”. Bless all who have been affected by the passing of Captain Phil. Even me, I felt like I knew ‘of him’ at least a little. Bless J & J.
I didn’t know that the F/V Cornelia Marie wasn’t fishing. So, bless the CM family and the rest of the fleet.
I feel like I knew Captain Phil, or a
member of the crew, through the DC show.
I will still watch the show with greater interest and maybe buy an oilskin from ‘the store’.
This old world will never be the same without Captain Phil Harris. He seemed to be the type of person who would kick your ass, pick you up and give you a pat on the back. He will be missed by more people than he could ever have imagined. Josh,Jake and the rest of Phil’s family, you guys will be in our thoughts and prayers.
How is Jake doing? Is he going to be on the C.M.?
My wife and i are so sorry for your lose if you boys need a place to get away you may come and stay with us. May God be with you all.
I can’t seem to get enough of reading about Capt. Phil and his sons. Like everyone, he was my favorite. What we saw on tv was just who he was. A remarkable man. Who would work for free under those kind of conditions just to make a point he could do the job! Wonderful character. I hope the boys have inherited a lot from Capt. Phil. I surely will miss everything about him. My thoughts and prayers are with Joshua and Jacob.
