Video Interview of Captain Phil, “I damn near died on the boat”

It appears the word is out… Captain Phil faced a fatal situation this season, but we don’t know when or what episode it will show up on. In fact, he’s still not fully recovered as of today. But, let Captain Phil tell you in his own words what really happened… after the jump is a video from a WGN TV9 interview he did in Chicago with Keith Colburn.

Here is the summary by Discovery Channel of Tuesday new episode:

Deadliest Catch
A Numbers Game
TV-14 (L)

A mechanical breakdown presses Northwestern’s Edgar to make a dangerous repair. Meanwhile questionable counting makes Sig lose his temper. Hard work separates the greenhorns on Wizard. On Cornelia Marie, Phil’s health is failing and impacts the crew.

Hey Phil: You are my favorite and I am sorry to hear about your health. Hope that you are better soon. You need to take better care of your self. Boys you need to stop doing all this stuff that causes your dad’s blood pressure to rise, you need to take care of your dad and make sure that he is going to be around for many more fishing seasons and many more years of your life.

My God, chill out everyone…Phil is the strongestof anyone around. Lay off his boys, they love their Dad and would never do anything to hurt him. Trust me Pil (and Jake) can afford the freaking TV. Yes, Phil went through an ordeal but he is fine and doing his thing…he’ll be fine. Lay off the stupid “strong die young bullshit, it is the strong, ornery people that survive health issues. Phil can still kick anyones ass, and will continue to be the strong extraordinary person we all love. Tell him to enjoy life and get laid, not friggin lay down and take this BS. He needs encouragement not your condolenscences.

Anyway, sorry I’m not so usually opiniated but give them a break! The strong just get stronger, and that is what Phil will do, anyone want to put big money on it..and I personally think that whomever is calling Jake and Josh “punks” need to learn the meaning of the word. This is completely inappropriate!

Still love you all, but think about the negative conatations your putting in our favorite crews mind…Mind your fucking manner, folks.

    Phil,
I don’t even know if you check out these notes on this blog. My suspicion is that you may not even know what the word “blog” means! You’re a fisherman. A hard-working, get-the-job-done-no-matter-what guy. My dad was the same way. He was a longshoreman on the Delaware River in Philly. Long story short, life took him all too quickly away from us in 2002 when he died at 52 years old for not taking good enough care of himself – his diabetes or his heart. He just kept going and going like that damn Energizer Bunny. But you know what? He did what he wanted to do in life. His #1 dream was to get a house on a hill in the country. He worked thousands of hours of overtime to do it. And he did. He was only able to live there 7 years, but he made his dream come true. I’m telling you this because I know you’re going to do whatever you want, whether that’s take care of yourself or not, and your kids will respect you for whatever decision you make – because they know you made your dreams come true. For the sake of them, I hope you do take better care of yourself. I’d love to have my dad back, and wish he did. But I don’t regret the lifestyle he had or the career he had. He was damn good at it. And I never got the chance to tell him that. You’re damn good at your job too Phil, you’re an inspiration for a lot of us out here. Just please don’t forget that once you’re gone from this world, there’s nothing that will replace you. God Bless.

Phil = Strong and will get better and/or is better now
Josh & Jake = Very sweet, they love their dad very much
TV = good (it got me out of trouble with my mom when I did something similar not long after that episode aired…I didn’t think it would be a big deal, but it was to my mom LOL)

    Phil,
You’re really strong and I really like watching you and your kids on tv. Be safe, have fun with your motorcycles and birdfeeders (or birdhouses, which was it?), and have lots of luck fishing!

You guys have an AWESOME captain! What a privilege to work for a man like Phil. I’m jealous! Take good care of each other.

    Capt. Phil,

I hope you are doing well. I love the show and the Cornelia Marie is my favorite boat to watch. I know first hand how bad aneurysm can be. A couple of years ago my grandmother had one that went in her brain and she almost died. It took her a good six months to recover from it. I can’t imagine how hard it was to suffer one while out at sea. I hope you and your family are doing well!

    Stay safe and take care!

You are going to do what you are going to do and no one but you is going to change that. I lost my mom and dad at 15 and amazingly I’m still alive. I haven’t changed all that much I just slowed it down a little. Your health is #1 and don’t ever forget it. Your kids may drive you nuts but they make life worth living. I was glad to have met you last summer and would really love to see you again. Take care of yourself-because no one is going to do it for you..

It saddens my heart that Phill was stricken by this unfortunate of the Pulmonary anurism, being a nurse I can understand the emergency status of the situation at the time that it happened. Someone (possibly GOD) was looking out for you to make it home the same way Jesus who was a fisher of men made it home through unbelieveable circumstances. You have once again proven fishermen are aspecial breed not to be compared to any other. Each has his good and bad points all to be taken with a grain of salt, no punn intended. We love you all for what you tirelessly do to provide food for the tables of many.
Hang in there the time of your lives is still ahead. You and only you will have the opportunity to share with the sea her greatest gifts, its openess, its gifts of food and prosperity, and to be humbled by her ability to take us at her bidding.
    Love,

I love the show and have become one of the biggest fans. My ex-father in law had the same condition and I know I dont have to tell you just how lucky you are to be here. I am so glad that you seem to be recovering nicely. Being an ex-oxycontin addict I know how hard it is to beat addiction, but ya really need to try to give up the cigarettes my man. I watched both my mother and father die from emphysema..they were life-long smokers. Well, enough preaching..just take it easy and make those spoiled boys of yours take care of you..LOL. Peace.

You’re still needed by your family and all of us that gather around our TV’s on Tuesday nights to check in on your lives. All of you have brought so much more to people’s lives than you could ever possibly know. Families get together to watch ” Deadliest Catch” just like they did the Tonight Show years ago. Jake & Josh~ take care of the ol’ Man He’s a great guy. Maybe have him keep a smoking log. Have him write down every cig he smokes and a note on why he felt he needed that cig…. It might slow him down a bit. Stay safe all of you! Much love from Kansas

phil, i have an undeniable attraction towards you. i only know you from what i see on tv and by web sites, but there is something about you that draws me in. maybe its that you are so dedicated to what you love, maybe its that you bring to life what so many of us dream we could do with courage we could only pray for, maybe its the unconditional love your have for your children that we get to see first hand, maybe its because i think your really hot. What ever it is that makes me feel bonded to you, it broke when i read about what happend. i was terrified for you, your sons and everyone that loves you,{including me}. it would be more than a devistation if something were to happen to you. i am so glad you are doing better, and i know we will probably never meet, but i want you to know that i hold you in my heart. best wishes and good luck in all that you do.

We are similar in the fact that we “take care” of the people in our lives. That is very hard to change, because it is part of what makes you the wonderful person you seem to be.
If you are ever around Pittsburg, let me know. This is one southern belle nurse from MS living in PA that would love to meet you!!
