Deadliest Catch Captain fishing for a crew
King Crab Season is almost upon us. Beginning mid September and on into October each year, Captains and crew from the fishing fleet begin the exodus north to Alaska in the quest for gold. Crabs to be precise, and they can be just as plentiful or elusive as the shiny nuggets coveted by early settlers during the gold rush in the Wild West. A huge pay check is not guaranteed.
This year the Captain and Crew of the F/V Cornelia Marie are searching for a new greenhorn. Among the qualities needed will undoubtedly be a yearning for adventure, a good sense of humor, and the ability to think fast, work hard, and just refuse to admit defeat.
It’s possible a lucky person may get the coveted brass ring and a chance to prove themselves. Along with the chance comes a promise to be worked beyond normal endurance levels in freezing weather. Included, too, is the possibility of vomiting unmercifully as you enjoy the most amazing sunrise one has ever seen.
Who will be the winner of the opportunity of a lifetime? Applications are being taken ”Cornelia Marie Style” by Captain Phil Harris along with his sons Jake and Josh. Only those with tenacity, a strong sense of adventure, and a strong body that will keep going past the point when the mind has already thrown in the towel need apply.
Saturday August 29, Captain Phil Harris, Jake, and Josh are conducting interviews at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

I wanna be CM’s “Boat Mom”.
I can cook, clean, sing, dance and I wouldn’t charge a thing, I’d do it just for the experience. K, maybe not so much sing…Even though I’ve never met any of them, I have the utmost respect and hold each and every one of them dear to my heart. Their family becomes your family, ya know? I could sit around for hours listening to the Tales Of The Sea.
Cheers xx

Sorry for posting here again, but I couldn’t send my message to Phil Harris. Maybe it has reached, but my computer says that sending message is failed. There’s nothing secret between me and Phil so I can post it here I think.

Hi Phil!
Finally I found somewhere to post my message so am really very happy, before everything, thank you so much in advance!
I am a boy who is 15 years old and writes from Turkey. Watching Deadliest Catch on Discovery Channel and I “believe” in it! My uncle is a seafarer and I always wanted to be a man who stands in a boat on seas. There can be nothing better than crab fishing, I think. I am not stupid, thought enough and decided to go Alaska to catch something but really don’t know what to do.
My height is 178 centimeters and weight is 63 kilos, I think this is ideal for 15 years to be a crab-man. Improving my arms and legs to be more stronger, I know that you must be very strong man to do that job.
As a little dreamer, please… Help me about being a crab-catcher. I am living in Turkey and I got no chance to go Alaska, for now. Can you recommend me anything? I really need help. Looked for Alaska fishing job websites but all they want money, I don’t have a credit card and can’t pay them 45$ for a job that I can’t take. Can you guide me and show what do to? I really love Cornelia Marie so much; if you do that, you’ll be unforgetable for my life completely.
And also, as an addition, I would like to say something more… Please don’t smoke and don’t drink so much coffee; it really hurts you…
Waiting for your answer impatiently, hope you’ll help me, thank you so much!

All these greenhorns that don’t have a clue about the vastness, danger and how unforgiving the open sea can be. I’d love to work the boat. I come from a commercial fishing family. Salmon is our fish. Crab is a whole new game. Ah, the ocean spray in your face, down your shirt, in your boots…AWESOME ! Bring it on fellas. If you don’t have “a set” don’t waste Capt. Phil’s time.

Hello Phil. My name is Ryan Wilson i’m 34 years old married with two daughters. This is probably my third comment trying to get in touch with you to see about a greenhorn position on your fishing vessel. Yes i know you probably get hundreds of these propositions from allsorts of people however i’m different in the fact i really want this oppurtunity which is a once in a lifetime oppurtunity.I have written to many captains including Sig from the Northwestern i will give you the same option i gave to him in that i will work for free if you pay the airfare it would take for me to get to Alaska just to get my foot in the vessel and prove i’m serious i would be ther tomorrow if you were to contact me.I really want this not only for the money you can make but to prove i can do it i’ve never had anything truly amazing hapen to me besides the birth of my girls i need this to wake me up. I hope you will take this serious because i mean every word i say. However if you can’t help me maybe you know someone who could i’m willing to do anything to get myself on a Crab Fishing vessel weather it be to work at a processing plant anything to prove i’m serious about this it is no joke to me. Hell what do you have to loose i will work for free for my first trip out then after that you can make your own decision i guarantee it you will not be dissapointed please give me a shot it would be a dream come true my best CFhristmas present ever to get a call from you saying you would take me up on my offer. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME SINCERELY RYAN WILSON.

This is for Ryan and anyone looking ro work on this vessel .. or for anyone at that matter … i can see your very sincere in your applications .. but keep this in mind … offering to work for ‘free’ is not the way to get on any of these boats … Be honest to yourself sir … dont undervalue yourself by doing this … none of these guys would do this for free .. its their way of life, their families livlihoods depend on it . Place some respect with yourself first .. yes youd not be treated any differently then anyone. My husband has been diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease .. he cannot work anymore ..period … nobody will hire him not even to wash dishes now … I m not trying to start an argument here but please do not insult those who are desparately trying to find ANY job out there by saying this … if you have jobs right now of any kind in this economy count yourselves very LUCKY indeed.
I m not trying to discourage you from getting on any of these boats .. and all my best of luck to any of you .. right now just be thankful for what things you do have … ok i m off the soapbox now .. God bless the fleet .. and Merry Christmas to all :) !!
