Cornelia Marie thanks you for your support

philboys_crabpots

My mother Cornelia Marie and I wish to thank everyone for your support on behalf of Josh, Jake and the rest of the family.  During this most difficult time you have expressed your sadness and offered your prayers and good wishes.  Many of you have also shared your concern for Phil’s boys.  Many nice of words have been written in emails and comments – we appreciate them all.

Many of you have asked if the “family has a charity, group or cause they would like donations to be made in Capt. Phil’s memory”.  Capt. Phil supported certain causes and something will be setup shortly.  Once it is, we’ll post it here.

Anything sent to the address below, will be hand-delivered to Jake, Josh and Phil’s dad by a close family friend.

Captain Phil Harris

PO Box 32466

Amarillo, TX 79120-2466

Thank you so much for all the kind words.  We will post more later.

    I was so sad to hear that Captain Phil passed away. I have enjoyed Deadliest Catch for a year now, and love to catch up on old re-runs. If I were to work on a crab boat on the Bering Sea, I would choose the Cornelia Marie. Captain Phil loved and cared for his crew, and especially his sons. He worked to keep everyone safe, and fished with enthusiasm, dignity, humor and passion. My hope is that Jake and Josh will work out their differences, and realize that family is all we really have, and that their father will be looking down on them with a smile as they continue to grow into responsible young men. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

    I’m watching tonights episode, and find it kind of surreal that in a few more episodes, Captain Phil will suffer a stroke, it makes it kinda hard to watch, but watch on I will, I watched from the first season, (heck I watched the original two crab fishing specials that aired on Discovery Channel way back when.) In 2007, I had Deadliest Catch on in the delivery room when I had my son. All the cursing and yelling somehow made my labor seem a lot easier. I mean really…. I am and always will be a loyal fan. As a die hard Cornelia Marie fan, I truely hope the boat and crew stay on in the future, they are our only connection to Captain Phil anymore. Thinking only positive thoughts for you all. Stay safe.

    To Jake and Josh, I’d like to offer you my condolences and let you know that it would’ve been a privilege to work for your father be it be aboard the C/M, or at a desk job in some office building.

    Also, if I were 30 years younger I’d be proud to be a ‘green-horn’ working alongside the both of you!

    Fair winds and following seas Captain Phil and God’s blessings on Jake and Josh!

    Josh and jack…Believe it or not I did not start watching deadliest catch until this year. Being a business owner I never really had time. But from the very first episode I was hooked. It was indeed a real pleasure watching the many episodes with your dad and you all on the Corneilia Marie do battle with the elements and come out winners. guys being guys most of us look at the show and say “I could do that.” Not this time. Being a former combat Marine in Vietnam I can still bring myself to say “No way Jose.” Your father and the crew have my admiration for so many reasons. You are fine sons and have endured a very difficult time. I join the many thousands of admirers of your father in saying we hope you hang in there and follow in his footsteps god willing. He was a fine man and a good template for those who want to know how a father should feel and act towards his boys. Trust me. There is no greater love. All the best to you in any of your endeavors. God bless you and the crew.

    I read that one of Phil’s doctors said this tragedy was totally caused by smoking. As a long time smoker, why don’t we start a stop smoking campaign in Phil’s name. He never beat the beast. I did for 2 years and started back again but I’m willing to quit again and I’d love to do it to honor Phil. Anyone else interested?

I was shocked this morning when I did a google search and his name came up and said he’d passed. And then I thought.. damn the good die young. He seemed to be really down to earth and witty and I will damn sure miss him on the show. Sending good vibes to those who lost a father and friend. He must have been amazing to know :)

    As a long Deadliest Catch fan, Peggy Gibbons did not know Captain Phil. Smoking was not the cause of Phils passing. He passed from complications from a stroke and had a history of blood clots.
    If he was buried he would be turning in his grave.
    Jake ans Josh would agree to that. Love you guys. We hope to see you in 2011 season.

    Every week, We’d watch Phil, his boys, the crew, and the rest of the gang from all the other boats. Loved, laughed and became angry with everyone else. It was like watching old friends and being the fly on the wall. Since we read about Phil’s passing, I has hurt to watch him every day, knowing each day we’d get closer and closer to the inevitable. His words would touch a core. Sad and hard to believe he’s gone.

    I check in from time to time to see how the crew is doing, how you, Josh, and Jake, are doing. I pray that you all are finding peace and keeping his memory strong, and take everything he tried to teach to heart. I pray that you guys close. Isn’t it funny how God gives us just the slightest chance to say things that need to be said, before something tragic like this. This is the 1st time I had seen Phil bring out old pics of his boys, showing how proud he is of you two and how much he loves you both. I cried while I watched last week. I’m just glad that Phil was doing what he LOVED, with people he loved, right up till the last minute! I thank God that he went fairly quickly and didn’t have to go through a long sickness and chemotherapy and all that. Wadda guy! I bet Heaven is not a boring place with PHIL there!

    I watched the new show last night. I cried like a baby when I saw Capt. Phil in the stretcher being lifted to the pier for transport to the hospital. I also cried when Phil got out the pictures of his boys. I got an eerie feeling when he did that. I can’t stop wondering if Phil knew what was going to happen?

    I haven’t been able to stop thinking about his boys. I hope they and the rest of the crew are doing well.

    I also would like to make a donation in memory of Capt. Phil to whatever charity the boys would like.

    Sincerely,

    Watching Phil on the show reminded of so many of my good buddies over the years. He was just a down to earth honest hard working man. Someone I would be proud to aspire to be. He was real, someone who you could feel would share a beer with you. The way he loved his boys and his care for his friends was beautifully evident. He was a tough ole coot but was not to tough to let others know that he cared.

    I wish the best to the family and success to the Cornelia Marie crew. And Jake, you looked real good on the trubute video. Your father would be proud of you both.

    Wouldn’t it be great if Discovery Channel got on board with this (The stop smoking tribute) and helped all of the guys to stop in whatever way they thought would work for them. Since they are all out there together, that would give them support.

    Also, with all of the viewers, who obviously are devoted to the show, it would give the millions of viewers an insight into how to cope with quitting. Not necessary to devote the entire show(s) to stopping smoking, but every now and then give a glimpse into how the guys are doing and how they are coping.

    Come on Discovery channel! Your faithful viewers are watching….and many of them are trying to quit. If these guys on the Bering Sea can do it….anyone can!

    O Captain my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
    The ship has weathered every rack, the prize we sought is won,
    The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
    While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
    But O heart! heart! heart!
    O the bleeding drops of red,
    Where on the deck my Captain lies,
    Fallen cold and dead.

    O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
    Rise up–for you the flag is flung for you the bugle trills,
    For you bouquets and ribboned wreaths for you the shores a-crowding,
    For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
    Here Captain! dear father!
    This arm beneath your head!
    It is some dream that on the deck,
    You’ve fallen cold and dead.

    My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;
    My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;
    The ship is anchored safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
    From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
    Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
    But I, with mournful tread,
    Walk the deck my Captain lies,
    Fallen cold and dead.

    To the Family of Phil Harris:

    It is possible to love someone from afar, and we loved your Dad. Phil reminded my Husband and I of our Dads, tough Teamster truck drivers. What you saw was what you got.

    Please know your Dad is stil with you. To repeat what others have said, it was so apparent that Phil loved his Boys and his Family more than Life itself. The LOVE never ends, Josh and Jake. I lost my Pop 3 years ago to cancer (yes, smoking) and I would watch Phil to see my Dad mirrored in the Captain. BE STRONG, his Spirit is with you…look for Pennies from Heaven and you will be surprised. Cling to each other and the ones you Love. I am an Only Child, and know the Love of a Brother or Sister is a Gift.

    We all grieve for Phil, just like you. I guess it’s because we all thought him invincible, like we did our own Parents.

    Jake, I was so proud of you whne you decided to go into rehab. You dont need to tke drugs of any sort. It will consume your entire life. Take you away from crabbing and worst of ll take you away from your family. Jake, I was and still am a Addict(in recovery) I started doing drugs when I was 7yrs old smokeing pot, then takeing pills, onto cocaine and crack. The final thing I did was heroien and went into rehab when I was 16 yrs of age. I have been clean off of drugs now for 24yrs. Yes, that would make me 40yrs old(old man….lol) But, when I was doing drugs I was running from Feelings, Ander, Hurt, Depression and many other things includeing MYSELF. It took me a while to really talk about the things I needed to talk about but, I did it. And, let me tell you I am a better man now that I was when I was younger. Even though I m disbled I still can do anyting I want and control my own dreams, lfe and relationships. I hve done many speaking ingageents about drugs and me that I sponser alot of people in recovery. always remember my friend that you wll always be an addict but you are a addict in RECOVERY. Please work on you and get all those feelings out of you so you can grow into a stronger and better man.If you ever need to chat or need some one to talk to you can email me at [email protected].
