Cornelia Marie thanks you for your support

philboys_crabpots

My mother Cornelia Marie and I wish to thank everyone for your support on behalf of Josh, Jake and the rest of the family.  During this most difficult time you have expressed your sadness and offered your prayers and good wishes.  Many of you have also shared your concern for Phil’s boys.  Many nice of words have been written in emails and comments – we appreciate them all.

Many of you have asked if the “family has a charity, group or cause they would like donations to be made in Capt. Phil’s memory”.  Capt. Phil supported certain causes and something will be setup shortly.  Once it is, we’ll post it here.

Anything sent to the address below, will be hand-delivered to Jake, Josh and Phil’s dad by a close family friend.

Captain Phil Harris

PO Box 32466

Amarillo, TX 79120-2466

Thank you so much for all the kind words.  We will post more later.

To all of Phil’s family, friends, crew and other loved ones:

I can only say that just by watching your show, we came to love Phil. He was funny, a straight shooter, and loved by so many. I hope that all his family will take comfort in knowing what a huge “extended” TV family Phil had and what a loss we feel, as well. Phil’s spirit has to be so strong, so I would not be surprised if he checked in once in awhile on the Cornelia Marie. I pray that God will bless all of Phil’s family with a “peace that passes all understanding”. Phil will be missed.

I started watching Deadliest Catch when it first aired. For me, it was an instant success. My father was a fisherman when he was 13, out of Providence RI. Back in 30s, and he told me stories of what the life was like. My father is long gone now. But watching Deadliest Catch, gave me a glimpse of what his life may have been like. For me the show was more than just a TV show, it helped me to understand my own farther. And watching Capt. Phil Harris, I saw my own farther. Of all the captains, he and Sig were my favorite. But there was just something about Capt. Phil that I found so interesting. Not sure if it was the obvious love he had for both his sons, his pride in what they were doing, and his impatiens with them when they did not live up to his standards. Sure he went off on them a number of times, but no one would ever doubt his great love and pride in them both. I am not sure just what it is I saw in him, but I know what it is I feel now. I feel a personal loss with his passing. Very much like I felt when my own farther passed. I hope we will still get to see his sons, carrying on what their father started. I must say, I think the world is a slightly lesser place with our him. I know I have a empty feeling inside of me, that I have never had with the passing of a TV personality, or any more star. I feel like I have lost a close family member. God bless you Capt. Phil, and you can finally rest in peace, your tanks are full and it is calm seas for you.

    Dear Jake and Josh,
Remember your father’s words. That he wanted you to be the best you can be. Don’t do stupid things, be an extention of how the world knew your father, loved your father and granted us the grace to get to know him and you both.
Be brave for your father’s love, be resourseful in doing what you are destined for, regaurdless of the waters that surrounded your father. He wanted a better life for you, become encased with his love for you and what is best for you. I am so sorry for your loss but so thankful that the world knew of him, his courage, his sence of hunor and how much he loved his son’s. He is at peace, be sure that you two find yours.

I am a 65-year old widow who has totally enjoyed every episode of The Deadliest Catch (more than once). The Cornelia Marie was my favorite of all, even tho I like all of them. I liked Phil’s straight-shooting with everyone. And was so concerned about him when he first had trouble a long time ago. I was deeply saddened that Wednesday when I first heard the news that he had died. I had just ‘tracked’ my SMSgt Air Force son on Sunday the 7th as he was flying over the Bering Sea on his way to Kunsan Korea. And thought of the Harris’s and the Cornelia Marie then. Unreal that 2 days later he was gone. Please know that you are being thought of with much sadness and heartache. My best to all of you! With much love and concern! Gayle Ernsting

I offer you my sincerest of sympathies and condolences on the recent and tragic passing of the Captain.
I would love to be able to give some saged advice, or say something that could minimize your pain but in all honesty there isnt anything I can do except feel terrible that I am as helpless to do anything as the rest of you were.
To Cpt. Phil’s sons, Josh and Jake, remember what your father taught you, hold his words of advice and wisdom close to your hearts and pass that on to your own children, but also remember that even though your Father wanted you guys to have the best of everything, that ultimately you have to determine your own course in life and live it to its fullest…do what feels right, and you will know what that is in your hearts. No matter what you decide to do with your futures, you know your old man would be backing you 110% smiling and growling and probably with a smoke hanging outta his mouth!!!!
I wish I had of been as privileged to know Phil Harris as his family, friends and Crew all were, there are not enough genuine people in this world to begin with…and now sadly we are minus one!
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam! May He rest in Peace!

It is with a very heavy heart that I write this and express my condolences to the Harris boys and family. Phil was a man of honor, a true American that will always be remembered as the big ol’ teddy bear that he really was. :) He was taken from us all too soon, but will live on in our hearts and memories forever. Here’s to you Captain Phil! May God bless your family and keep you close by His side; if just for a great chat or joke from a great man! There are no words to express my sadness at the loss to the Harris family, but I hope they all know that they are in our hearts and prayers and that their “old man” is watching over them and will guide them through their lives. He will be with both Jake and Josh in their times of need, times of happiness and times of sorrow. Know that he is not “gone”, but he is only away… Make the old man proud, boys, and make the right decisions in life as he’d want you to. You both were his life and he loved you both so much; that’s more than a lot of people can say about their own parents. You were and are loved by your daddy, the one and only Captain Phil!! :) I hope you find comfort in knowing that. Get a grip though boys and “man up” as that’s what he’d expect from you both!! God Bless you all!! With much love and respect for the Ol’ Captain of our hearts!! xoxoxox Kari ♥♥♥♥

It must feel so strange to have so many people talk to you, (and about your father), as if they actually know you. It definitely feels strange to care about people you’ve never even met, but only gotten to know on television.

Josh and Jake, it’s obvious that you are both just as stubborn, bull headed and tough as your father – those qualities will serve you well in this life. Keep on keeping on – try to feel the prayers as much as the pain and know that there are millions of “strangers” out there that care about you both!

Watching Phil chew you guys out was always amusing to me….and no matter how mad he got, you two never shut up…lol…apple doesn’t fall far. I now have a son with that same affliction, so those ass chewings will by missed by us all!

Phil epitomized the true American spirit.

I have to ask, Where do men like Phil come from? Brave, hardworking, independent, men who are willing to risk everything, even their lives to keep hearth and home together and raise their family.

I never had the opportunity to meet Mr. Harris or to thank him for being willing to allow us to get a glimpse of his work and life.

I pray for the Harris family and thank God for men like Phil, the crew of the Cornelia Marie and all the rugged people of Alaska.

When you were here in Eureka, CA for the fundraiser for the young man who had brain cancer, I was so excited at being able to meet the Great Captain Phil Harris, people say to you, he won’t give you the time, well time he did give. When your dad put on his shades it said it all. Your dad was just that a dad, friend, tell it like it is, straight talk, no bullshit…you just felt and knew how much he felt for not only you boys but for the people who loved your dad….I am proud to say that I loved your dad, I will always be grateful for being able to meet with your dad, remember the Lego crab ship that one that the young boy had made and presented to your dad you were all so impressed…Well here is to Captain Phil Harris, he was not just only our friend through the series he was a true family man and I will miss your dad …blessings to you Josh and Jake, I will light a candle for all of you…

I cried when I found out that Capt. Phil had passed. I wish only the best for Josh and Jake. They can and will come through this with lots of respect and courage. Stay strong boys and remember that your father will be watching over you always.
