Capt. Phil recovering from surgery
Last night Capt. Phil underwent surgery. Both of his sons, Josh and Jake were at his side. Josh flew in from St. Paul to join his brother. It may be some time before we know anything substantial about Phil’s condition.
Thank you to everyone who has sent good wishes and prayers for Phil, his family and the Cornelia Marie crew.
An old family friend of the F/V Cornelia Marie, Derrick Ray flew to St. Paul to take on the role of relief skipper for the rest of the Opilio season.

I have watched the show since it started and always loved when Phil got onto his sons. My message to them is to keep on learning and to memorialize him by their actions. He showed what the human spirit is capable of. I will miss him greatly along with the rest of his fans.

Josh and Jake I know what you are feeling, my mother pasted away 5 years ago of a stroke it hit leaving the hospital she was dead by night fall. It is shocking and sad to lose a father or mother. I’m praying for your family and keeping you in my thoughts. I’ll miss Phil, watched you all over and over again from the reruns. Keep us posted on how you are doing. We Love You.

Phil was a great captain, a very tough (as nails) kind of guy, and most importantly…an exceptional and loving father…what a man…what an example he left for all us Dad’s goin down the same hard road he traveled…I feel so lucky and blessed to have known him in a sense…even though we never shared a single word…I am grateful to have know him through my television.
Jake & Josh…hold your heads high…carry-on your fathers legacy…and know one thing for sure…your father was a one of a kind type of guy…a maverick and trendsetter for sure…and he loved you boys more than anything on this earth…and I say this from experience as I do too my boys…may God bless both of you and give you MEN the courage and heart “OF A LION” to carry on the legacy your father built for the Cornelia Maria…and both of you boys…
