Capt. Phil makes progress toward recovery
Capt. Phil was talking to friends and family today; showing his greatest progress since he suffered a massive stroke one week ago. It’s been a long and difficult week for friends and family as Phil was medivaced from St. Paul Island and under went surgery.
Capt. Phil’s sons Josh and Jake have been at this hospital and continue to stay by their father’s side. Some Bering Sea fishermen have also come by to pay Phil a visit.
Meanwhile, the F/V Cornelia Marie has been back fishing for Opilios. The season has really just begun, so there’s much more fishing to do.
Great folks from around the world have sent their messages of encouragement and get-well soon greetings – for this, we will always be thankful. Many cards have been sent and they will all get to Phil as he recovers.

In our hearts their will be a huge void left by the passing, of one the best loved, if not THE best loved Captain on the trail of crab.

I am so sorry for your loss. The love, concern and loyalty Captain Phil had for his sons is what made him my family’s favorite captain on the show. He leaves behind a legacy that Jake and Josh can be truly proud of. Capt. Phil made a difference in a lot of people’s lives, not because of what he did, but because of who he was. May God bless and bring peace to Captain Phil’s family, most especially his wife and sons.

I work for a living like you boys do, so i don’t get to choked up by shit on tv much.
Im feeling exactly the same way i felt when Dale Ernhardt got killed. Like part of my world just caved in and i “really” didn’t know the guy.
How the hell did a fisherman get on the same plateau as a Nascar legend?

I was very sorry to hear of the death of Phil. Being a fan of the show makes me feel as if I knew him on a personal basis. I sincerely hope his family get over this tragic loss. To his colleagues I say to you good luck, I don’t know how you do it because no amount of money would make me do what you do. I am Irish and I will sign off with a saying in Irish ”Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilis” Roughly translated means ‘May his soul be on God’s right side’. Thanks for the memories Phil.

He will be watching you. Namaste.

It is with real sadness that I read the news about capt. phil today.
As I watched the show, I could tell that Capt. Phil was tough, knew his business, and could be a pretty rough guy at times. But the thing that impressed me most was the love he had for his sons.
He tried sometimes to be rough with them.. and I think, sometimes he was really mad, but he loved those boys so much that he just couldnt hide it. I always got a kick outta watching him get on to those boys, then as they would walk out, he would smile with pride, well… as a 56 year old with kids, I knew how he felt.
It is my opinion that, if the Deadliest Catch continues, it will always come up a little short because Capt. Phil is gone.
My deepest sympathy and condolences to Capt. Phil’s family and friends.
