Capt. Phil makes progress toward recovery

phil_500xCapt. Phil was talking to friends and family today; showing his greatest progress since he suffered a massive stroke one week ago.  It’s been a long and difficult week for friends and family as Phil was medivaced from St. Paul Island and under went surgery.

Capt. Phil’s sons Josh and Jake have been at this hospital and continue to stay by their father’s side.  Some Bering Sea fishermen have also come by to pay Phil a visit.

Meanwhile, the F/V Cornelia Marie has been back fishing for Opilios.  The season has really just begun, so there’s much more fishing to do.

Great folks from around the world have sent their messages of encouragement and get-well soon greetings – for this, we will always be thankful.  Many cards have been sent and they will all get to Phil as he recovers.

Captain Phil was my favorite captain in the whole fleet, his outbursts, his humour and the love he had for his boys Josh and Jake, his boat and his job made him who he was. I cried when I saw the announcement on the Discovery Channel yesterday as I could not believe this had happened to my favorite captain. My thoughts and prayers go to Captain Phils family and the crew of the Corneila Marie, Deadliest catch will never be the same, you will be missed by many.

Phil was one of the most caring, heartfelt captains that is on the Bering Sea. As with all captains who love the sea his heart will always be with the boat, his kids, his family and his sea. God Rest Phil and God Bless his family and Harley!

Our prayers go out to Capt Harris’ family in such a difficult time. I have watched every episode of Deadliest Catch and Phil Harris was my favorite captain. I guess in part because he reminds me so much of my own father.
Capt. Harris will be greatly missed. I know that he is up there looking down on his family and on the Bearing Sea. He will be your guardian angel on your many future trips to the fishing grounds… GOD BLESS

My sincerest heartfelt condolences to Phil’s boys, family and friends. I really just became a die hard fan of the show this last season. But it didn’t take long to see that Phil was the real deal and he quickly became my favorite captain along with his sons. I really felt like I knew him. It was a genuine shock to see the news of his passing. The show won’t be same without him. The world has lost a truly great soul and he will be sorely missed by myself and my family. Our prayers are with you Boys. He is gone, but will not be forgotten by thousands of fans like myself.

    Sincerely,
    George & Family

My 13 year old daughter and I have been fans of the show since day one. We have watched many seasons of great times, jokes, games, laughter and fun, especially from the Harris family. We are very sorry for your loss, Jake, Josh and family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very rough time. The Cornelia Marie has always been our favorite F/V to watch on the show and we hope that the great times will continue while not only remembering the ones shared with your father, but carrying on the Harris family legacy. We love you all, may you always be on the crab while he watches over you as your guardian angel, from the Heavens above. He will be sadly missed.

Mr. Harris was a great skipper in a totally inspiring program. I have been in a small sailboat in the Atlantic in a force 9 (severe gale) which was totally frightening..these guys are in a different league.
    RIP.

I just saw something on my homepage that Captain Phil had passed away. I am so very sad. I’m a 48 year old stay at home mom and became totally addicted to Deadliest Catch. My sons and husband teased me about it. They never watched, but I did. I really began to admire these great men, especially Captain Phil. My heart is heavy and I pray for his boys and dear friends. Rest in peace.
