I recently listened to an amazing Alaska singer, Britt Arnesen (907britt.com). She’s from Alaska and in many way embodies those great qualities of my home state.
Britt is not a long time fan of the “Deadliest Catch” or the Cornelia Marie. However, after learning about our boat and the show through me, she connected with the story of Capt. Phil and the fans immediately. As a talented musician and singer, she was able to capture her inspiration – “All at once, yesterday morning (April 20, 2010), this eulogy based on the traditional melody “Gentle Annie” came straight out of my heart.”
Britt has decided to give this song to the world, it’s a permanent free download from her website. Thanks Britt, I know all of Capt. Phil’s fan will love it!

Cute little diddy about a man that loved the Sea
I have a song inspired by Phil Harris on reverbnation under AMCMUSIC and on facebook,CALLED THE FISHERMAN he was a true tough hard working man R.I.P
I’m not a fisherman, but I was raised in a field with just as much family loyalty and blue collar, gutter talk mentality: Construction. Capt. Phil reminds me of my own father, in that they were both very unique individuals who didn’t bow down to any man, and walked their own path through life until the end. I have a great deal of respect for a person who is true to himself, as Phil did. He had his faults, as was shown in the king crab 6th season when he said he was going to go easy and relax for the night, and ended up screaming to jake he could get off the F*ing boat at the next port. I’m sure a large part of that build-up was from the reality-tv minds at discovery, but it still paints a picture not too off character for phil. Faults and all, Phil was a fighter, a strong man, and his death was a crying shame. I just hope one (or both) of his sons get to captain the cornelia marie, despite the fact phil was only part owner. I never knew until his death that the boat was named after the primary owner.

Oh and not to disrespect, I forgot to comment on Britt’s song! I thought it was a nice traditional reworking that paid hommage to a great man. I enjoyed listening to it, and this song made me look at Britt’s other work. If you’re reading this Britt, Keep fighting the good fight… meaning keep making people smile with your work!
A beautiful song for a beautiful man, Captain Phil Harris. His rough and blustering exterior could not cover his heart of gold. May God bless and comfort his family….and his fans.

While the lyrics are good, and Phil would have enjoyed it. I think to really get the Phil I come to know.. Need to be a little hard and not as young feeling.. Little more umph and less lullaby.

Is Britt Arnesen a country singer? her voice have the quality of a country song but she really sung great. The lyrics that she used to her songs are very touching and we will miss our favorite captain.

I too am a big fan of Deadliest Catch and miss Phil so much, that even today I still shed a tear for him and his sons. I am happy to hear that the Cornelia Marie may be back in action, as I have really missed the big blue out there on the Bering Sea. So Phil, to you and your fine sons who evidentually learned alot more than you thought they did, hats off to all of you. Your all great men.!!!!!!!
