F/V Lady Mary sinks off New Jersey

Devastating news in the world of fishing. According to the New York Times, two men are dead and four missing after the Lady Mary sank 65 miles southeast of Cape May, N.J. Tuesday morning. The Coast Guard said of the three crewmen rescued from the chilly Atlantic waters, only one survived. The search continues for the remaining four members of the scallop boat.

Our thoughts and prayers from the F/V Cornelia Marie go out to the friends and families of the Lady Mary.

I am a die-hard Deadliest Catch Fan, however I live in Margate NJ. Just a few miles from where the F/V Lady Mary went out. It was such a big thing here for us. Living so close to the shore you grow to feel a closeness to those going out to risk their lives in these dangerous conditions. I watch how vicious the Bering Sea can be, and forget that the Atlantic Ocean which I live only 2 blocks from can be just as bad. My prayers have been with all of the fisherman who go out there and risk their lives everyday. God Bless all of you

Living in Barnegat,NJ we tend to hear of boats being lost more often then anyone would think over on this coast. Alot of boats leave from the inlet here & it’s always sad to hear about lost boats or crew members being lost.Got friends that lobster in Maine,no one realizes that the Atlantic can be very bad, just as bad if not worse then the Bering Sea. Out here they tend to use smaller boats.

Thank you for thinking of your east coast comrades. According to local news, only one man has survived this tragedy. I thank you for your consideration of fishermen; being I live on Long Island, there is an abundance of fishermen, either for sport or commercial, in this area. Of course, my heart and thoughts go out to the family and friends of those lost to the big blue. God bless you and yours, and again, thank you for the consideration of the Atlantic Ocean fishermen.

Yes – its not just the Bering Sea that takes lives. We lost one here off the coast of Washington this week.

Having lived in North Wildwood and now a member of the Coast Guard, I know how the Atlantic treats people. I always watched the fishing boats leave Cape May from under the Cape May brige on Ocean Drive.

Oh this is really devastating. This kind of situation is really unpredictable. Although the boat has a good condition for the trip, yet there are circumstances that occur unexpectedly that can make a boat sinks. Hoping for the recovery of the victims.
