Owner and Captain

Phil Harris  (December 19, 1956 – February 9, 2010)

Phil captained the F/V Cornelia Marie for nearly 20 years.  During
thirty years of crab fishing, Phil loved the challenge of filling
the crab pot. When not at sea, Phil resided in Seattle, Washington and
could be seen cruising the highways of Washington on his Harley-Davidson.

Current Captain

Derrick Ray

Long time family friend, Derrick stepped in to skipper the F/V Cornelia Marie when Phil went into the hospital in February.  Derrick has come full circle, as he began his fishing career in Alaska on the precursor to the the F/V Cornelia Marie – the F/V Milky Way which was also owned by Ralph Collins.  Derrick has been a top gun fisherman with his own boat, the 136 foot Siberian Sea, which was the Hilton of the Bering Sea. His passion for fishing began in Seaside, OR fishing Dungeness crab off the 12th Street bridge as a young boy. He partnered with David Lethin, Rick Quashnick on the Maverick, and Capt. Phil. This was a hard group of fishermen to beat. Derrick has been the number one slot out of 250 boats in the Bering Sea a feat any fisherman would love to accomplish.  During the summer, Derrick helps out his buddy David Lethin by working on the tour ship – FV Aleutian Ballad.
